Are you rooting for the Nets more than the Celtics this year ?

I really could care less about the Nets because Pierce and KG are there or the Clippers because Doc is there or the Heat because Ray is there. I didn't become a fan of the Clippers because Cedric Maxwell was traded there. I didn't become a Portland or Phoenix fan because Ainge ended up there. I didn't become a Bulls fan because Parish ended up there. I didn't become a Pacers fan because Larry coached there. I didn't become a Timberwolves fan because McHale coached there and I certainly didn't become a Bucks fan because Cowens ended up there.

I have said it many times on this site, I don't get the need to become a fan of another team or follow players that played here simply because they moved onto another team. I cheer for the name on the front of the jerseys and not the name on the back of the jerseys. Always have. Always will.

I'm with wd. I hope the Nets completely implode and give the C's another high pick. I do not wish injuries upon anyone but that club has an inexperienced rookie coach, 3 main rotation players over the age of 35, another over the age of 32. A PG that has had some nagging injuries that have caused him poor years the last few years who also seems to not be able to get along with his coaches. And a center that can not rebound.

Things could go well there. But age, injuries, bad coaching and poor chemistry could happen as well and land them at .500 o0r below and THAT would make me a whole lot happier than that team winning a bunch of games or winning a title. If the C's aren't winning a title, I could care less who wins it.

The only time I'll pull for a basketball team in NY is when they play a team from LA or Miami. And even then I still don't like it.

Honestly, while I love KG and Pierce, I'm kinda hoping the whole thing implodes. 

Partly because I've thought from Day 1 that Pierce and KG's personalities are likely to clash bigtime with Deron, Lopez, probably Blatche...and Kidd is not going to be able to corral them.  So I guess I'm just hoping my first impression was right.

I'd like the Nets to win the title next year, sure.  At which point KG and Pierce decide to retire, Deron Williams starts acting up again and gets traded, Joe Johnson continues to decline, they make stupid trades/free agent signings, and the team tailspins back into the lotto just in time for all of our draft picks.  That's really my best-case scenario for Brooklyn, if I'm honest.

Am I the only one?  Or maybe I'm the only one willing to admit it.  Hell yea, I'm rooting for the Nets.  Call me a bad fan all you want, but Paul is my guy, and he's been my guy the whole time.  Sure I was a Celtics fan before him(not all that long though due to age), but when Paul showed up he was my guy. 

Paul was the entire team and it became basically Paul + whoever the hell management decided to put around him that year.  Honestly Paul was the Celtics.  It was him and him alone that carried the torch all those years.  True Antoine and Ron Mercer and Kenny Anderson and Ricky Davis and others came and went, but Paul was really truly the Celtics.  He stuck with us and both he and we were rewarded.  I still feel that loyalty towards Paul.  KG was great for us in 2008 and completely changed our culture.  I'm going to still root for KG.  Brook Lopez? Eh.  Deron? Blah, good when he decides to play.  Joe Johnson, eh, good but def not worth his 100 million.  I like AK47.  Can't stand Jason Kidd, but honestly Paul and KG are more important to me and ya, I'm gonna root for the Nets.  I'm all in with them this year.

He gave so much to us and when it was time to move on he was classy about it and I can't see rooting for them to fail.

Call me a bad fan but honestly I'd like to see the Celts lose as many games as possible.  If we could trade Rondo to the Kings for their pick then I'd like that as well.  Give me all the chances I can get for a Wiggins/Jabari Parker.  If we are going rebuild, no reason to half ass it and become the Milwaukee Bucks...

The Hawks have the rights to swap picks with the Nets (and then we get whatever pick the Nets end up with), so the above scenario doesn't do us a lot of good next year.
