he was never a Celtic. All he did was use the organization to pump up his resume. He never won any championships he should not have won, and he certainly lost championships he should have won.

He will be exposed BIG TIME in LA.

So let him have his say before the season. Comparing an NBA winning team to a team that has never got past the first round of the playoffs.

Doc Rivers = Fake.

Lol, the guy is now an employee of the Clippers so of course he has to talk up his new team like any player/coach would.

Let's give Doc a break ;D

Who knows, hiring Stevens might work out for the better.

I am excited to see what their offense looks like minus lob city.  Doc already made them worse offensively.

I think that while your passion is appreciated, I cannot disagree with this enough. Id point to every guy that passed through the Celtics doors as proof, excepting possibly (but not probably) Ray Allen. Everyone respects Doc, everyone likes Doc, everyone liked playing for Doc. Cuz Doc was and is a good coach, and a great manager of personalities.

Should the Celtics have pushed Miami to 7 games in 2012? No. Should they have pushed Orlando to 7 in 2009? Nope.

Should they have won in 2010? Maybe. Maybe. It was a close series. Pop and the spurs blew the finals this year, is Pop a bad coach?

The real question is, did Benedoct Rivers get everything he could out of the Celtics every year they competed? I dunno. Nobody can know that. Just like you can't know whether or not another coach would've been as successful as Doc was. People point to 2008 like it was a foregone conclusion. But ultimately, few people expected a title in Boston outside of Celtics faithful, and by and large the easy transition to the leagues elite was credited much to Doc's ability to manage players egos. Most people believed there would be an arc similar to the one that played out in Miami. Remember , there were 2 really tough series leading to that Finals, and more than one pundit bet against the Cs in each of those wars.

By his reputation among players in the league alone, Doc already has Chris Paul's confidence in a way VDN never did. He's also started a campaign to change the perception of Blake Griffin. Maybe it'll fall short. Maybe it won't. But I don't think if you're looking at the whole picture you can really call Doc a fraud. At least not objectively, subjectively is...well subjective.

Also a bit embarrassing, I read the title quickly as 'Rivers equates Freud', and thought it could be about Phillip Rivers' improvement.

I am really intrigued to see what the Clippers do this year. Doc gets there and imposes his slow pace/no offensive rebound/defense at all costs system right away. But does he have the talent to do this. I can't see Jordan playing the "KG role" on that defense and save CP3 and Matt Barnes I don't know if he has even an average defender amongst the lot of them. And now no Lob City. And Doc says they should be the best team he's ever coached. I wonder if everyone out there isn't in for a rude awakening.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...

Well one could argue, and I will, that those two series did not have to be that tough, and Doc really lucked into that championship because he was forced into adjustments due to injury and foul trouble. He really is a terrible coach that was lost without Thibs.

The second quote I agree with because Doc is in his element when compared with coaches like VDN and not Pop.

The issue I have with that argument is that there really isn't any way to counter is, or reinforce it. It's all unverifiable theory maybe you're right, and against everything the players have said about him, and his peers as coaches, and the majority of talking sports heads, are wrong, or, those were tough tests against a team that in which Doc managed well to pull three huge egos, and a fair amount of veteran journeymen together to persevere.

My Biggest problem with Doc, was the 2008 playoffs for sure...
We absolutely DESTROYED the entire league that season--winning by 30-40+ points a lot...

The Playoffs start---and Doc CHANGES his rotation...benching Eddie House for NO Good reason...Killed our chemistry right there....he finally woke up about halfway through the playoffs--and went back to the regular season rotation--and we stomped Detroit and LA----JERK almost cost us THAT title---good thing PJ Brown saved his butt vs. Clev.

Don't believe me--?....ask Steve Bulpett---he was yelling about it, while it was happening.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

Would anyone be even slightly surprised if the Clippers get worse this season? I will not be surprised at all if the legend of Doc goes down the drain this year. Just wait till DeAndre Jordan gets outrebounded by Jimmer. Wait till CP3 starts getting moody for no reason.  Wait till a big contract comes up.
