The risk is all mine," Rivers, 51, said. "To go to an organization that hasn't won but [two] playoff series in their entire history, in a town where the other team is the best franchise in sports history – that's risk.

I'm speechless. SMH

I don't agree, but could see where he is coming from as most of the Cs championship came from the Russell era where there wasn't as much teams as there is now.

Doc's a Knick, a Hawk, and a Riley guy...so there's that. Still...after all the years here, I am a little annoyed that he said that. Its one thing to call the Lakers one of the great sports franchises. But to say they are the best, when you just made your mark on the league with the team that has more titles than anyone (and, arguably, could have had one more had you played the bench a little more in Game 7)? The same franchise that kept you on when seemingly everyone wanted you canned? That's...not cool

That´s fine.

I also have a few silly nicknames for Doc Rivers, which I can´t use on this site, unfortunately.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

Objectively, the Yankees are the greatest franchise in (American) sports.

Good point.

In context, though, I think Doc's quote makes sense. The Clippers are certainly also-rans to one of the most prestigious sports entities in the USA.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

It's Doc doing what he always does, with his opportunistic use of the media to play his political games and portray himself as the underdog and the good guy/hero, by overrating the Lakers and painting himself as the risk taking hero leading the underdog Clippers against the greatest power of all time.

Not very different from his attempts to portray himself as not wanting leave the celtics although he's the one who signed an extension knowing KG and Pierce could very well be gone soon but he didn't want to rebuild, yet he tries to make it sound like he was doing the celtics a favor to sign an extension that he knew he wouldn't fullfill.

my feelings for Doc just took a bad turn...when he said he missed Boston and trying to make himself look good a month or two ago, he should've left it at that...

why is he coming back out and claiming the Lakers are the greatest franchise in sports??? I feel like that's sort of rubbing it in our faces...

Hope you lose many games with the Clippers

He better just own this quote. Own it and don't back away from it in any shape. Just own it.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Objectively, the Yankees are the greatest franchise in (American) sports.

I'd guess that the Lakers have a larger world market than the Yankees. Internet and TV will give teams like the Lakers and Celtics enormous value as more people can tune in live and in HD at the click of a button.
Great investment if you could invest in them.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Consider that "Sports" extends outside of America and that Football (Soccer) is by far the most popular global sport. Use that as the starting point when you consider the worlds greatest franchise.

Manchester United - Barcelona - Liverpool - Real Madrid - Santos

In a sentence you are all including Doc  way off the mark
