Doc is really earning his money in LA by getting media attention every week.

I don't care about Doc leaving, he brought a future pick back, and I hope next season the Clippers go back to being the Clippers and their pick is in the mid teens.

About the Laker quote, I'm waiting for Spin Doc to try to explain how it doesn't affect him being "a Celtic". Doc seems to be a good man and father, but his need to constantly give "quotes" to the media puts him in difficult position sometimes.

Minnesota/Los Angeles Lakers aren't the biggest franchise in basketball, let alone in all sports. Roy is right about the Yankees, although is true that the Lakers and Hollywood have better international exposure. But if that's the reasoning, the Dodgers should be bigger than the Yankees, too.

Outside of the USA, I guess it's Real Madrid/Manchester United/Barcelona, depending on what you are looking at (Income, global impact, popularity...)

Objectively, the Yankees are the greatest franchise in (American) sports.

Good point.

In context, though, I think Doc's quote makes sense. The Clippers are certainly also-rans to one of the most prestigious sports entities in the USA.

He could have merely said "one of the best". That was simply one more shot at the C's since his departure.

IMO the guy is proving just as petty, vindictive and unappreciative of his hiring and time with the C's as Ray Allen.

Salt,wound,OUCH! :P

Oh well, Im pretty excited about our position over any other boarder line lotto team. I can't wait to see what Stevens does with guys that want and can run, who will also play D. IF we get luck and miss the playoffs, Rondo comes back 100% and DA plays nice with the new comish, Parker will be a nice addition.

The past was fun, but really looking forward to the future now.

This is my take as well.

I agree too..... This was  shot fired at the Celtics. ,  IMO,   He wasn't a Celtic player and not really a true Greenie at heart like KG  and Pierce.

Doc and Ray Allen are from the same mold .

Really makes you hope Stevens can succeed and prove what lousy coach Rivers actually was .

Yeah, I'm sure that Doc has the feelings of Celtics fans at the front of his mind every time he's approached for an interview or a comment. ::)

If you see this as a shot at the Celtics, that's your perogative (and, really, as C's fans, I think we can all follow the logic), but I'm not sure it's healthy to dwell on Doc's every comment like it contains veiled barbs.

I think it's pretty inarguable that the Lakers are the biggest/most-well known/most marketed/etc. franchise in NBA history. I think that's part of the great thing about our rivalry, is that it does a great job of contrasting those elements.

I think Doc made that treacherous comment to make his task seem all the more difficult and add a little more merit to anything he might achieve there.

Apart from that, I thought most of what he said was fair enough. We all knew he didn't wanna go through a rebuild, how many championship winning coaches would?

  • No no no, not THAT "Eric M Van".
Doc Rivers returns to Boston with Los Angeles:
Dec. 11, Clippers at Celtics, 7:30 p.m.

Things should be pretty dismal around that time for the Home Town 5 so the reception should be interesting.

"Because there are no fours."
-- Antoine Walker when asked why he shoots so many threes

"We're going to turn this team around 360 degrees."

Who said anything about the fans? I take his vindictiveness to be directed toward Danny and the C's management.

Doc's very astute about talking to the media and wouldn't go crowning the Lakers like that without it purposely being a dig against the C's--yes, IMO.

Just to play the devils advocate, this could be read as going to a town's number two team where the fan's of the number one team are very passionate and have a very definite opinion about their team's place in history.

So just adding one word "the other team is CONSIDERED the best franchise in sports history – that's risk"

I don't know.  I do know that's what I'll say to my laker fan friends when they bring this up.

Without a doubt. In basketball it have to be the Celtics over the Lakers. Seeing that we've won more and have spanked LA in the finals more. But in the last 30 years the Lakers have been the best franchise in the NBA.

I don't agree, but could see where he is coming from as most of the Cs championship came from the Russell era where there wasn't as much teams as there is now.

Ummm ... you DO realize that 5 of the Lakers Franchise' 16 championships came while the team was in Minneapolis, all in 1954 or before?

NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.
