Not much of a surprise but now it's official.

http://boston.cbslocal.com/2013/09/26/boston-celtics-98-5-the-sports-hub-announce-multi-year-broadcast-partnership/

A couple interesting notes.

-There will be extended pre and post game reports before/after every game.

-There will be additional daily and weekly Celtics programming.

-Grande and Maxwell will be doing the PBP.

-Whenever there is a Bruins conflict, the Celts will broadcast on 100.7 WZLX (FM all the way!)

Lol, make him host the pre-game shows with Dickerson wearing a Rondo jersey.

At least they're on FM all the way and not being relegated to AM when there are Bruins conflicts.

Hopefully John Ryder still does a post game on WEEI. He's excellent.

I doubt it.  Well, officially anyways.  I got the impression that one reason they dropped the Celtics, was that they felt regular programming was going to get better ratings than the games.  Which probably means more Mikey.  Except for the 3 times a week when Mikey is inexplicably not there.  Then Ryder can do a de facto pre and post game.

It will be interesting how Felger and Mazz work with the C's.  Neither of them are anything close to basketball guys, and they admit it.  My guess is they will probably just have a lot more basketball guests.

It would be fantastic if they could get a regular thing going with Grande.  Even if those guys aren't basketball guys, they are terrific hosts, and they know how to get the most out of their guests, and I think Grande would work really well with them (and teach them a lot).

I am also really interested to see if this will also move the regular interviews to Sports Hub.  I am almost giddy at the idea of Felger interviewing Ainge every week.  The douchy questions and condescending answers will be thoroughly entertaining, and I think will really work, since they both do have good senses of humor about that stuff.

Who would interview Stevens though?  Would he be on the morning show?  Not sure how good a fit that is.

  • No no no, not THAT "Eric M Van".
Wouldn't this be a great time for Boston radio to reach out to Ryen Rusillo and see if he has any interest in doing something back here in a radio capacity.

I may be one of the only folks in the entire world that listened every day to him at 1510 on yer radio dial (The Die Hards (mid-2003 to 2005))

Despite his tendency to get a bit snarky, he's just a brilliant basketball blabber and the shows he did back then were in depth, smart a joy for a BB fan to listen to.

It especially be fun just to listen to John Dennis's head pop off when he found out he was back.

Doesn't Rusillo have a national gig on ESPN radio?  I imagine they would have to throw a lot of money at him to get him to come back to local radio.

I know he was doing something as the second banana to Scott Van Pelt. I don't if ESPN has exclusivity clauses for radio broadcasting.( or if he really get's paid that much)

For all the hype about what a BB "expert" Simmons is, Russillo is the real deal. It's good to hear them jaw on Simmons Podcasts on occasion.

ADDENDUM:

Looks like he's at least been asked if he'd consider coming back (not by 98.5 though)
