On KG and the rookies:

Quote
“He did a lot of good things that people don’t know,” Rivers said. “When rookies came in, he would bring them up to my office. He’d sit them down, and then he would bring his tailor in and say, ‘If you want to be a pro, you’ve got to dress like a pro.’ And he would buy each rookie two suits, and he did it every year. To me, that says a lot about Kevin Garnett as a teammate.”

On the Perk trade:

Quote
Rivers acknowledged that the 2011 Kendrick Perkins-Jeff Green trade was a mistake that ultimately hurt Garnett.

“I think so,” reflected Rivers, “because we needed the toughness. The one thing we did by losing Perk was we removed Kevin’s protector. I didn’t think it was a coincidence that, after Perk left, that Kevin got into all those little flicks with the other teams. Perk deflected all that.”

On CP3:

Quote
“I see a lot similarities between he and Isiah Thomas,” Rivers said. “I’ve already reached out to Isiah. With his ball-handling skills, he’s as close to Isiah as we’ve had in the game.”

On CP3 and Blake being in too many commercials:

Quote
“Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, the first thing I asked them, I said, you know what bugged me? I watched the Finals, and you guys were on more than the game. You’re on every commercial. We need to get off the commercials and onto the floor.”

Was Doc always this ridiculous, and I just blocked it out because he was our coach?

Perkins is an overpaid stiff, Jeff Green is a stud, and filming commercials isn't mutually exclusive with doing work on the floor.

Like his comment about the commercials.

Garnett got into more tussles after Perk left? Not sure if there is evidence of that. I value the opinion but I really don't think KG got into more "Flicks" after he was gone. I actually thought you saw a more controlled KG (seriously) his last couple years as he got even older

Reading the article, I've got to give Doc props for all his work with the charity.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Disagree on all counts. The Perk trade WAS a mistake (everyone knows it) and I agree that the Clippers, particularly Paul and Griffin need discipline and to be reminded to focus more on the game and less on being in State Farm and Kia commercials.

Maybe their "stardom" got to their head.

On the rookies - that is what made KG such a leader - he will bring in the rookies and just help them out. Even if they are not rookies, KG always helps them fulfill their potential if not make them better players

see - Glen David, Leon Powe, Perkins. He made Rondo into a leader he is today. He gave Bradley the confidence he needed to play in the NBA (read some of the older Bradley threads and how he said KG helped him out when he was struggling with his confidence). KG is HUGE for any player that is willing to learn.

On the Perkins trade - Please! KG was already a Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. before and after his championship. Perkins didn't deflect anything away from KG. Perkins was a rebounder, defender, and the tough guy of the team. He was the enforcer. He also protected KG, true. But that doesn't mean KG wasn't a tough guy himself. KG was ALWAYS taunting the other team's players, the Perkins trade didn't change any of that.

CP3, Blake - can care less, my mind blocks them out whenever there are commercials

I think it's more a product of being in Los Angeles, the television and film capital of the country. Chris Paul wasn't getting many commercials as a Hornet, but I don't think it was for lack of trying.

Oh really? I don't consider it a mistake, and I'm part of "everyone", so I think there's a problem with your data set.

I liked his quotes about the commercials too. He's wanting them to grow. It's ok to be a super star, but don't let that get in the way of what the ultimate goal should be.

I read Shaq's book, and he talked about how Doc wasn't having that super star treatment stuff with the Celtics. Non of that paying for your entourage to travel and etc.

I don't think it was a "mistake" either..I think it was more of a timing thing than anything else.

Who is "everyone"? All this time I thought I was part of the club.

Yeah, if only Chris Paul did less commercials. Than he'd be the best point guard in the league.

I wonder how Jeff feels about Doc's comments? Oh well, he doesn't have to coach him anymore.

The Perk-Green trade was a mistake is a little out of context.  It was a mistake in relation to winning that year (would not have mattered without Rondo).

Doc's position has always been "With hindsight, I would have done the trade after the season."

There is no guarantee that the trade would have been available if Danny had waited.

add me to the list of "everyone" don't get me wrong - I LOVED Perk when he was with us. But at the end, Perk is just going to be overpaid. Jeff Green is a better athlete and better long term vs Perk. However, I also agree with the part where it was a timing issue. If we have not pulled the trigger in 2011, would it made much of a difference in the Miami series?

If these two scenarios existed:

1. We don't trade Perk - We beat Miami, would we have won a championship? would they trade for Perk the following year for Green?

2. We don't trade Perk - We still lose to Miami, would OKC still accept that trade in the offseason

I think he was.  Like how many times did he say "Our starting 5 has never lost."  I always thought that was kind of ridiculous.  Especially since he was still saying that in 2011.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class
