Quote
NEW YORK (AP) -- New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith was suspended without pay for five regular-season games by the NBA on Friday for violating the anti-drug program.

Smith, coming off offseason surgery on his left knee, will sit out the first five games for which he is eligible and physically able to play. Smith had patella tendon surgery and arthroscopy that will keep him from joining the Knicks when they open training camp late this month.

Woj is reporting that he tested positive for marijuana. I don't know if that's the only drug he tested positive for, but if so I think most the league would be suspended.

They don't test very much for recreational drugs, so he probably already had a positive test to get caught in the random compliance testing.

If you're smart its easy to avoid, J.R. Smith has never been considered the guy with the best judgment or self-control.

JR just not smart enough to not get caught.

Want to bet Rondo doesn't partake?  Many players do, most just don't do it when they know tests are coming.

Frankly, it's stupid because those are the rules, otherwise I just couldn't care less.

I bet a lot of them partake..especially during the off season. But this is JR we're talking about..lol. The one who is 100% sure the Knicks will be 2014 champs..probably just got done smoking then.

A 5 game suspension means this is his THIRD positive test for Marijuana.

1st positive is "treatment"

2nd positive is a fine

(I believe neither of the first two positives are made public, based on policy...not sure about that though)

a 3rd positive is a 5 game suspension.

the dude always had a big ego, which is fine, he also does his fair share of contribution to his team. He is a very good 6th man even from his Denver days. Just the dude isn't very smart, and his off court antics (sometimes on-court) affects his team in a bad way - ie getting suspended for altercation or drugs related

No wonder he promised the New York Knicks an NBA title, and thinks Paul Pierce is "bitter". Hahahah.
