Well I guess Vitor can coast.  He is starting center.  I think this may be the most centerless roster in the history of the NBA.  BB can play it in a pinch but he's awful at it.  especially without KG playing beside him.

Think we will add somebody or are we gonna let it ride on an injury prone guy who never played in the NBA?

I'd still like to see Asik in green.  Maybe dumping Fab was a prelude to that.  Since we did not need him anymore because Ainge knows Asik is coming (I can dream)

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Asik ain't comin, we've got very little we can offer the Houston would want IMO.

But hey, brand new rookie big man with unknown skill and a cool name. Winner winner.

I think this may be the most centerless roster in the history of the NBA.

With Amare Stoudemire limited to 50 minutes (and I don't really think he's a center, anyways), the 2005-2006 Phoenix Suns had a center rotation of 6'7" Shawn Marion and 6'9" Kurt Thomas, with 6'8" Boris Diaw getting the most minutes at power forward.

I think center will be filled by a rotating committee of Hump, Sully, and Vitor.  I'm really hoping Vitor can step up and own the 5 spot.  We don't need much, just toughness, some rebounding, and some defense.  A few putback buckets here and there is all I expect offensively from him.

Here's a nice little summary of all scouting reports of Fav.

Quote
Vitor Faverani

From: Brazil

Last played for: Valencia BC (Spain)

Aptly-named "El Hombre Indestructible," the 6'11, 260 pound Faverani is a risky acquisition for Boston Celtics and general manager Danny Ainge. By itself, the Brazilian center's contract spanning three years and $6 million in full isn't frightening, but it is scary considering the Celtics' salary-cap situation, which this season is above the luxury-tax threshold.

But the Celtics did need a center. The only true center on the roster is 23-year-old project Fab Melo, who is a long way from being a starting center, let alone a contributor. So the 25-year-old Faverani will have a solid chance to earn minutes early on.

He averaged 9.4 points and 4.6 rebounds in 23 games with Valencia Basket Club of the Spanish ACB league last season.

According to scouts and ESPN Boston's Chris Forsberg, the upside of the big man comes offensively. He has the length and bulk to score most efficiently in pick-and-rolls at 1.2 points per possession, according to MySynergySports.com, and off offensive rebounds at 1.32 points per possession. A scout told the Boston Globe that Faverani could be an effective pick-and-pop big man thanks to his mid-range shooting ability that sometimes led to him stretching the floor past the international three-point line -- he also is athletic enough to be a solid roll man.

The scouting reports are an inverse to any on Melo, a shot-blocker with little offensive skill. That means Faverani could be a liability on the defensive end. Like Melo, Faverani had some maturity issues that kept him from being drafted when he became eligible.

Boston has enough versatility in forwards Brandon Bass, Kelly Olynyk, Jared Sullinger and Kris Humphries. But there's no doubt they could add some size to the equation, and Faverani is that man.

That's a very short crew but I always liked Thomas as a center.

A: The last two championship Miami Heat teams.

Bosh = PF
Howard/Anthony/Haslem = Hardly played
2013 CB Draft Champions*: Minnesota Timberwolves
DKC League: Washington Wizards

I think that our own 2012 Celtics fit the description as well.  No one thought Kevin Garnett could play center . . .  until he did, and did it well.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

chris anderson was pretty key though i thought for the heat this year. did what you'd expect a center to do on that team- finish a lot of easy dunks.

I am still struggling with the breakup of our team.  I hated small ball last year, and without KG and PP, this year will be even harder to watch.  Watching a young team learn to work together is one thing...watching a team with few real NBA players and fewer mentors wuth any real winning experience is scaring me away from the Celtics.  I hope they gel early and make games worth watching.  How many college teams can beat a real NBA team, hmmmm?   Has Danny hired Rick Pitino as a secret adviser on how not to give players a chance to develop? I love the Celtics...but I still question Danny's approach.

And they won the Pacific, notching 54 wins in the process.

Also, despite what this depth chart claims, Diaw and Thomas were the centers on that team, Marion and Thomas were the PFs.

To be precise, their frontcourt rotation was either SF Marion - PF Diaw - C Thomas or SF Jones - PF Marion - C Diaw, with Thomas sprinkled in as the backup combo forward.

* of the 15 players on our current roster have played in the playoffs for a combined 297 playoff games. 4 of those 8 have played in at least 25 playoff games. I wouldn't be so rushed to say we have few real NBA players. Sounds like you just don't like our players.

Yep, it does sound sort of like that.  Well, I like Rondo and Sully...but they are both coming back after a long injury break.  I love Bradley's defense, but don't feel he is a rounded enough player.  I have hopes for a few of them...but don't see any all stars.  Maybe they will surprise me and win me over?  I am just grumpy, I guess.

most contenders play a PF at center nowadays.
