With Rondo? No.
Rondo does get the best out of him offensively.
But defensively, neither of them are going to last long if they have to spend most their time defending larger SGs.
He's best role for the Celtics would be off the bench or traded to a team with a large PG that can allow him start at SG, but defend the PG.
It really is to bad because I like him next to Rondo offensively.
I did a little research that I'd like to share. According to the numbers from the boxscores at BasketballReference, in the 36 total games that Rajon Rondo and Avery Bradley have started together the average opponents' points per game is 87.4 and the average team defensive rating for those games is 96.6.
Those are crazy good defensive numbers. I realize that it's an extremely small sample size, and that there may be legitimate question marks about whether or not that level of defense could be sustainable over a full season or multiple full seasons. Of course, we also no longer have Kevin Garnett who can likely make any combination of guys look good defensively playing alongside him.
Still, though, those numbers are crazy good. I say, let's see if we can get an extended period where the two of them are healthy together before we make up our minds that it can't work.
I like their chemistry together, and I'm looking forward to seeing it develop further.
