It's always nice to have a guy like Derrick Rose on your team, but I'm not as excited about your other star. Blake is glorified; he'll be an incredibly entertaining pair with Rose, but nothing can overcome the fact that he has not improved, and arguably got worse, in 3 years in the league.

Vucevic is an interesting complement in the frontcourt, because his ability in the mid-range means Blake can focus staying down low. Defensively, however, you have two very porous defenders in the middle; considering the frontcourts in the West, this is going to get your team in serious trouble.

As for Afflalo, his lock-down defense will be valuable, but I really like his offensive game alongside Rose, too; Afflalo showed last year that he's just not great at creating his own shot, and his 3PT% took a huge nosedive. With Rose's ability to collapse defenses, Afflalo will benefit greatly. The backcourt seems solid.

It's definitely a good start so far, but then again you could say the same for a lot of teams. Personally I've been very impressed with my first ever CB draft.

Yes we want to add another big to help because the west has very strong front courts. As for blake getting worse? I'd say his scoring is down cause guys like Crawford cp3 and Butler. Jordan playing more meant less rebounds. So because his team is better doesn't mean he is worse then bedore. When players have a better team the numbers usually drop doesn't make that player worse.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Boston Celtics
Irving | Gordon | Gasol | Kanter | Splitter

It all started with the Kyrie/Pau combo, which is a nasty offensive combo. Splitter is a competent starting caliber center, although I feel he's still a step behind in the NBA game. The big questions marks are easy: Gordon and Kanter. With Gordon, you have a guy who has missed nearly as many games percentage-wise as Bynum. The big difference is that Bynum has demonstrated he can be a game-changer, while Gordon has only shown the potential to. With Kanter, you have a super promising young center, and someone that I'm very sold on, but I'm not so sure if others feel as confidently about the big Turk. Since Splitter is around, I'd imagine Kanter will be getting shopped, but again, his lack of a track record may make it tough getting fair value for a guy who was arguably overdrafted all the way up in the 3rd round. Realistically, you guys might have to consider shopping Splitter - or, in a worst case scenario, make your 3rd round pick a 20 minute bench player.

Having only gone through 4 rounds, it's obvious that no team is near being a finished product, but this team figures to be especially behind in the pack. The Kyrie/Gordon/Pau core has limitless potential on the offensive end, but defense, along with Gordon's health, are glaring flaws. It'll be a challenge navigating the center dilemma, too. Considering the guys at the helm, I'm quite interested in seeing how this all unfolds.

I don't have access to the synergy stats from my phone but...as far as defense, and Tiago Splitter goes:

Tiago On the court Spurs Points allowed per 100 possessions: 99.2
Tiago Off the court Spurs Points Allowed per 100 possessions: 105.5

Spurs also scored better with Splitter on the court.

Gasol On the court Memphis points allowed per 100 possessions: 99.2
Gasol off the court Memphis points allowed per 100 possessions: 105.9

Now Im just a common cave man. Your fire and iPads FRIGHTEN me. What is that little device? Is there a demon trapped inside that makes those birds so angry they have to attack those pigs?

But to me, those numbers look awfully similar. Obviously Gasol's the better defender, but...they do look very similar..

Kanter also, with a far, far, FAAARR worse supporting cast was an on/off the court difference of 7.8 points.

Not seeing the defensive question marks you are, at least from my POV.

As I've said before, I love the Rose/Blake combo. Certainly good for more than a few SC top 10 plays.

Aflallo was a nice pickup. A great fit next to Rose. Solid defender, and can hit the three. Not as high on Vucevic. Although he was definitely the best big available (he fell a while), he's not the best fit next to Blake. You'd have been better suited with a stronger team defender.

Still, you've got a great core and you're sure to make the playoffs, unless you make a very dumb trade.

Now do Cleveland ;D

I like the team defense. Although I think you need to add some shooting and another big. KG isn't getting any younger and ty and horford won't be able to carry the scoring load. Defense is definitely were this team hangs its hat. Interested who else you'll add.

His rebounding has definitely gotten worse and you can't attribute it to his teammates. You're seriously going to accredit his rebounding decline to Deandre Jordan? I mean, rebounding might be his strength, but come on now... Blake's positioning has gotten a lot worse, and he often seems more interested in wrestling with his opponent rather than establishing position with a purpose. Blake's rebounding rate has declined gradually in each year. There's a lot more to it than simply being surrounded with better talent.

Besides, getting worse in one aspect of the game isn't as concerning as his complete lack of improvement anywhere else...

To be fair, I only attributed bad defense to the Kyrie/Gordon/Pau core. Even at his age (and his injury woes last season), Pau remains a pretty reliable defender at his position. However, Kyrie and Gordon? I'm not even sure there's a debate there...

West- Golden State, Houston, Minnesota, Phoenix

Rebuttal.

Golden State doesn't have the talent at the top that San Antonio does. And who's passing the ball between Randolph, Lee, and Earl? Hibbert I guess. Huh.

Minnesota is getting a Lebron pass, but he's won with two All-Star scorers alongside him. Where's the offense coming from up North?

Houston is going to score a ton of points, but doesn't have a plus defender on the roster. Don't try to tell me that's Batum unless you've checked the #s.

Phoenix, admittedly has the great Duncan/West tandem. But Teague/Butler hardly raise them above the fray.

Memphis & the Spurs rool!

Other teams drool!

That's interesting. Kyrie Irving, terrible defender. Alledgedly a big reason why Byron Scott got fired.

But Gordon used to have a rep as a potential perennial stopper. Even last season (http://www.82games.com/1213/12NOH6.HTM#bypos) his opposing assignment had a PER below average (12.8), and Id say his biggest knock since leaving LA in the CP3 trade has been his effort level. Everything we're reading this offseason seems to indicate that he's at least appearing to be done pouting.
