Parish was in the NBA for a long time, but that was a long time ago. I would have taken a shot on him as an assistance coach when he retired but I think at this point he would not have as much value helping the team as a player who retired recently. Most of the players today probably never even watched him play for the Celtics.

If I remember right, scout/PR jobs were around $80-100K.

Chief wanted to coach, getting closer to the $1M range.

That's a heck of a difference.
...
100K isn't much. As a new coach he deserves at least the league min for players which is like $190K or so.

" All we are saying, is give Chief a Job"
" All we are saying, is give Chief a Job"
" Everyone sing it"
Peavey Bass Player - relearning to play after 10 years sucks;

The only thing stopping this from happening is not enough periods. At least you are doing your part.

He deserves an interview but he doesn't deserve a job unless he can communicate that he is going to do a better job that a highly motivated coach with a less recognizable name.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball-dont-lie/robert-parish-restless-wants-nba-coaching-job-may-181554889--nba.html

"Worse is the Globe’s assertion that Parish turned down a $80,000 a year job with the Celtics in 2004 because the role was in public relations, the salary was too low, and because he doesn’t want to live in Boston full time because the weather is not to his liking. Parish was after a better-compensated sidelines role on a Celtics team in flux with former combatant Doc Rivers about to take on the head coaching role with his assistant staff already in mind. A staff that already included former Parish teammate Clifford Ray."

Too bad we can't just give Chief some youth potion and slip him into that #5 spot.  Sometimes good players don't make good coaches and vice versa, ie some pretty bad players have turned into some pretty good coaches.

If Clifford Ray is doing his job well as a big man coach, Chief might also be a redundant addition at this point.  But I'm not sure if he's coming back.  Really it is Steven's call.  He is the new head coach and should get to pick his staff.
