If Pierce and Garnett were here, they wouldn't have been part of rebuilding because there was no rebuilding in process to consider. So the point is moot as far as I'm concerned.

If PP and Garnett was still on this current team, it wouldn't have been enough to seriously contend.

False.

Four All-Stars with a bevy of good role players  would have been enough to seriously contend.

I said this "current" team that we have right now is not enough to seriously contend. Kg stated it after the playoffs, they needed more pieces. Sure they'd be enough with some good role players, but I'm talking about what the C's have already.

Didn't we more or less know all of this already?

Unless you are pickig away ay every single word every player gm and coach says everyday and run with whatever story you want than this is pretty much exactly whati thought went down and was for thenmost part exaplined to us

I feel like even if we could have contended, two things still remained true as well:

1. Maybe their window is another two years?
2. The chance of a difficult injury is also pretty high for guys their age with that much mileage.

You have to rebuild sometime and transitional opportunities usually present themselves in such a way that it is a pretty clear choice. I think this was the case with the Brooklyn trade - Ainge and now Pierce have even said as much.

Within 2 seasons, we'll have somewhere around $30 to $40 million off our cap, we have a number of decent young chips and nine draft picks.

That's a pretty clear transitional opportunity to me.

I concur with this take.   I mean, personally, I think that if everyone was healthy, that they could have put together a contending effort with one more run.

We never really got to see all of RR, AB, PP, JG, Sully & KG fully healthy and playing well at the same time last year.   We'll never truly know how that might have been.

And if it stumbled, PP would still have had great trade value at the deadline (huge expiring contract AND potential value to a contender needing a scorer).

But is a legit point that an untimely injury would knock that value down.   And Doc's heart clearly wasn't in it.   Once Doc was gone, Danny probably couldn't refuse the Nets deal that was sitting there.  And it's hard to argue with the value Danny got.    To convert Doc, PP, KG & Terry into 4 first round picks while really only taking on the difference between Terry's and Wallace's contract plus one extra year of the latter?
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

I'm not sure that we "knew" this already...as comments from any of those who have left Boston have been somewhat rare and uninformative.

That being said, I'm glad Paul Pierce "cleared the air" about the entire situation.  It is a win win situation for all parties.  Doc gets to work with Chris Paul and company in LA, Pierce and Garnett get a REAL shot at another championship, and Boston has enough assets to accelerate the rebuilding process hopefully.

I'll miss them...just as much as I missed all the other great stars once their time had passed.  It's now time to begin working on the Celtics:  The Next Generation! :D

Does not want to be part of the rebuilding process?? Would PP agree to take a pay cut and bring some younger stars in? I doubt it.....bye Paul. Time for everyone to move on.

nice snippet from the Truth. funny how "loyalty to a player" in this case was shown through trading him to a contender, even if it was to a division rival.

KG's move to Boston was kind of a loyalty move. Not to a division rival but still.

I'm pretty sure there are others. Basically anti-Melo/CP3/Dwight moves. Examples of what's right with the NBA really.

Sounds about exactly what I've thought all along.

Maybe if we can bounce back quickly enough, Paul can come back as a free agent.  But I think we'll be lotto bottom-dwellers for at least a few years.

For me, two years would be about right. If we could land two-three top 5 picks and have massive cap room in 2015 that would be potentially scary.

Pierce back in Boston as a player coach in 2016 on a farewell tour. ;D ;D ;D

Taking a pay cut isn't an option allowed under the CBA.

I seem to remember Doc saying he had no problem with rebuilding when he signed his last contract with C's?

What a stud Pierce is. The "Truth".

You had to knwo these guys all sat down and said "look, we have to do "this" now, what's the best possible scenario for all of us, given the fact that we simply have to do "this" (rebuild), now?."

A) Pierce and Garnett go to a team that gives them a legit chance to win / compete at least, for a title there last few years.

B) Doc gets to coach a contending team

C) Boston ends up with " a lot" of cap space within the next 1-2 years, nine unprotected first round draft picks over the next 3-4 seasons.

Everybody won, including the fans. If you can't build a contender with cap space and nine first round picks, some of which, perhaps this year's, may be high lottery, then you've got issues.

The future is bright for Doc, for Pierce and Garnett and for the Celtics.

Nicely done Danny.

Danny's playing the karma card.  He did right by all three, there are no hard feelings.  He gave them all the best chance he could to win a championship, and banking first round picks and good karma.
