-Is the current celts lineup with stevens a better team than 06-07 version with doc?

- If that 06-07 team wasnt dismantled how good would they been 2-3 years later? Top 4 seed?

- if the 2013-2014 team does bad as 07-08 team, we dont get a top 5 pick in the 2014 draft, does danny pull another one or two big trades to get prolific player(s)? Or will danny remain patient this time?

- lastly a side question for anyone that knows. Who was the last team that won a nba championship without having at least one top 5 pick in their lineup?

Answer to your last question is the 2010 Lakers, I believe.

EDIT: nvm. Gasol was 3rd overall.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

One was a perennial title contender, and the other is a contender for worst team in the league. Not sure what your point is.

Hmm...good question.

Starting at the top:  '07 Pierce vs. '14 Rondo:  Tough call.

2nd Banana:  JGreen vs. Wally Sczerbiak?  Oh, we're much better.

3rd Banana/Prayer for future:  Big Al vs. either Sully or Olynyk.  Since we have both, I think we're better now in terms of potential studs in development.

Young Role Players:  Bradley vs. Young Delonte.  All-NBA defense gives decisive edge to current roster.

Balance:  We have an entire roster of young players with balance and complementary skills in ROndo/Bradley/Green/Sully/Olynyk.  Much better than the hodge-podge in '07.

I'd have to admit that Danny has done a pretty fantastic job at setting up a roster for the future that is stocked with talented young players.  We could be a pretty solid playoff team within a year or two without really doing anything at all.

But what would Rondo/Delonte/Pierce/Jefferson/Perk have been able to accomplish?  Probably not much.

Al Jefferson wasn't a third banana on that team. He was its second best player. Wally played ~30 games, and averaged 5+ mpg less. Jefferson was considerably better then that either Sullinger or Olynyk will probably be this season.

There isn't a world in which the 07 version of Delonte wasn't better than Bradley. All-defense selections and all. Also, that team had a young Tony Allen (for a bit), and a productive Ryan Gomes.

I don't think so really, particularly when you consider that our team last season severely underperformed. It wasn't a talent issue, it was coaching and chemistry issue more than anything to go along with our health.

I'm not convinced that this team will be worse offensively yet, and I think we'll be much better perimeter defense wise, and I see us having improved rebounding.

New coaching, a defensive minded one at that, the assumption of faster pace with younger players, improved rebounding and improved perimeter defense tells me we should win more games... of course, if we aren't healthy, then this becomes irrelevant.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.

Big Al was highly regarded as one of the best prospects at the time. He was oozing potential and was looking to become one of the more dominant post players. He was averaging 16/11 in his 3rd year - keep in mind that he came in from high school.

He was the main part of the deal that netted KG. Could Sully/Olynyk net someone even close to the magnitude of '07 KG? Of course not.
I like Marcus Smart

Assuming all are healthy, 06-07 mops the floor with this year's squad. That means pre-ACL tear Tony Allen, right? No glass ankle Szczerbiak?

Perkins/Scal
Jefferson/Gomes/Powe
Pierce/Tony Allen/Gerald Green
Szczerbiak/Delonte
Telfair/Rondo

Neither team is scaring anyone defensively, but this team, matched up against our current roster, is going to have no problem scoring the basketball.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Why? He doesn't have to be held accountable for his comment.

+1. Overall this upcoming team has more depth vs two superstars or aging superstars and lack of depth of last years team. I mean some games we had bass playing center for crying out loud.

Our bench imo of hump, bass, wallace, lee, brooks so much better than last year ver. On offense green is younger and some ways better than pp at sf spot . kg loss leaves a big question mark but sully and olynyk bring something new and diff to the table. If stevens is a genuis plus a healthy co operative rondo is back, imo we should be better.
