This is clearly pointless. You are on me about not knowing the facts when a cop and the homeless man stated the same thing, however don't have any issue rushing to judgement that this was a racially motivated cop who was lying because he didn't like the guy because of his skin color. There is no denial by their camp. There are no buddies he was with coming out (yet) and saying that this isn't what happened.
The plain fact that you would dismiss the clear fact that this country has made HUGE strides in the racism field shows your bias and inability to consider anything other than if the accused is black it must have been racism. Then to say it isn't even a factor?! If you can't admit that you don't want to see it. We have a black president! When I was born (42 yrs ago) we had segregated schools. Many areas it was illegal for a black and white couple to date. Is it completely where it ought to be? No. But attitudes like yours push us further away from that goal rather than closer to it. If you want to live in an excuse filled world where the criminal isn't guilty BECAUSE of his skin color, that is not much different than this being the reason they WERE guilty.
BTW, OJ's own mother doesn't believe he was innocent... His behavior since then has confirmed everything you want to know. Oh... He was probably framed for THAT as well.
1. I highlighted the opinions in red that you attribute to other people but really only exist in your imagination.
2. The progress we have made is very debatable. To use an analogy, putting a restraint on a dog, does not make it any less hostile. There are tangible benefits to restraining the dog, but that does not equate to having a nicer dog. This discussion is not really relevant to this thread however.
3. I don't claim that OJ was innocent. I really have no idea. All I know was that he was acquitted by the U.S. legal system. I couldn't care less about O.J.'s mother's opinion. For all I know, they hated each other.
4. It is undeniable that the legal and political system have progressed in addressing racism. It is not very clear at all if this progress has translated into the socioeconomic realm. It is easy to look at wealth distribution, prison population, media portrayal and even the anonymous internet comments to see that it is unclear exactly how much progress has been made.
5. Why are you so quick to jump to the conclusion that Jones is guilty? Terrence Jones and the homeless man got into a conflict. It is one person's word against another. The cop at the scene took the side of the homeless guy. I wonder if the same thing would have happened if instead of Terrence Jones it was Justin Beiber.
I suspect the headline "Homeless man harasses Bieber outside of club" would be more likely than "Justin Beiber stomps homeless man." It is a fact that our society views Terrence Jones as a threat of violence and aggression because he is a young, big, black male. Beiber on the other hand is seen as much less of a threat and the homeless man would be portrayed as a drunk, drug addicted bum assaulting a pop star.
For the last time, I repeat,
I do not claim that Terrence Jones is innocent. I only claim that I have no idea and neither do you. To assume that he is knowing so little is not only ignorant but negligent.
