Safe to Say Gerald Wallace already gone?

I was just on the Celtics website and noticed that even though Wallace is included in the Celtics roster, he still doesn't have a number yet (even Humph, Bogans and Brooks have numbers.)

Couple that with the fact he wasn't even at the press conference a couple weeks back and am just wondering if Ainge is either already trying to move him or has already found a deal. I know any deal involving any of the Brooklyn guys can't become official til Sept 12.

I doubt it. A buyout doesn't seem likely either.

Personally, I'd like to see him play.  He has it in him - I really don't think he is totally done for.  Then again, unlike most, i am not on the Tanking wagon.

Didn't he miss the presser because he had a previous commitment at some hoops camp?

While I think Ainge might like to move him, he also might currently be the least movable person on the roster. I think BKN's desire to unload his contract was a big part of getting all of those picks back - and since it's been only two weeks since the trade, that contract hasn't gotten any less palatable for another team to take on.

Too hard to trade. Gotta get him on the court and get him back being productive again before Danny can find a taker for his large contract.

I'm actually quite interested in seeing how he performs with Rondo and Green, particularly off the bench. Solid defender too, who plays hard.

I also want to add that his lack of a number could be because any number of reasons other than him being traded already. Like he has a tough summer schedule and can't make it here for his team presser yet to reveal it. He could be in negotiations to but someone else's number that he wants. He could not have decided on which number to pick yet. Who knows?

But I think jumping to the conclusion he is gone is presumptuous given how large and bad his contract is and how poorly he has played over the last couple years. Its really going to take something to get out from under his contract.

That year he spent between NJ and Portland, he was nothing special. He certainly hasn't played like a $10 million a year player since leaving the Bobcats and pretty much has gotten steadily worse over the last three years.

I guess you could judge his 2011-12 season as "meh" but I wouldn't call it good. "Disinterested" is probably the best word to describe him the last few years. Not sure being on a rebuilding team in Boston will turn that around. I sure hope so but I don't think so.

I disagree. I agree he's not worth the money, but playing poorly he wasn't. That said, when he was traded to the Nets he didn't acclimate himself well to his new team, and he did perform poorly once moved there, but prior to that he was having a pretty good season, shooting over 47% from the field scoring in double digits, grabbing almost 7 boards a game.

Last year was awful, but I see it more as an extension of the apparent poor chemistry there was in that Nets team since he arrived.

He does have a look of "disinterest", and I also felt the same... but I also think we were reading too much into it, I think that's simply his mannerisms. He plays hard, sacrifices his body, and he's quite active around the boards.

I am not either nor do I necessarily want to see Wallace dealt. It was just an observation. Only two good reasons why moving Wallace wouldn't be a bad idea 1.) His contract 2.)If you could possibly get another PG or C in return for him.

That's not a frantic group. Crash is open to plenty of criticism, but I don't see how his work ethic is up for debate? Dish?

I am nervous to find out to what extent his struggles were the results of poor fit - both Johnson and Carlesimo often just stranded him out on the perimeter - and nagging injuries versus time's toll on a player heavily dependent on his physicality.

I agree with this.  During the nets games I saw last year I thought GW played hard.  He just was poor on offense. 

I don't think we really have a choice with Wallace.  No one is going to give us a deal that will be good for us right now with the length of his contract. 

As a fan, I guess I am just hoping I see the hustle and effort for the C's that he has given his other teams in the past.  I will root for him, and hope he plays well.  I just don't expect all-star play from him.
