Trying to think of a team that might take a chance on him.

There are about a dozen teams that seem to be planning to tank the '13-'14 season, so I can think of about a dozen teams that would love to have Jordan Crawford jacking up shots for them.

Good point. Philly should take him for a second rounder.

Nice if you could just dump someone; but need to do it in a way that takes his salary off the books. Question is whether it is worth using part of our trade exception just to get ride of someone. You need to get rid of the player and their salary without taking on another salary and or player. Maybe this is obvious; but you need to look at teams that have suitable PG's (Someone with size and experience) and can also take on a SG and PF in a two for one and hopefully shed some salary in the process.

Danny may also want to give Steven a chance to see what he has.

Not so easy.

Of course they would.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I realize he isn't everybody's favorite type of player and he may not have the most endearing personality to a number of folks, but he isn't a bad player at all. For his career, he has averaged 13/3/3 over about 25 minutes a game. I understand that he isn't the most efficient player, but he is decent and there should be a market for him in this league.

Also, don't be so sure that MarShon is the better player. What is this assertion based on - that he's new? He is barely more efficient, a worse outside shooter, and isn't as good of a passer as Crawford.

This nonsense that Crawford is garbage gets to me a little bit. If you don't like him as a person, then fine, but he is actually a pretty good scorer to have off the bench.

So, you're basically looking for a team with a trade exception or cap space that will take on Crawford's contract for a minimal asset, such as the right to swap second-round picks in 2016.

I believe the teams with trade exceptions that big enough are Memphis and OKC, plus anyone else who may have picked up a TE this off-season, but I'm not sure and the sources I usually check aren't up-to-date.

His scoring ability is nowhere near good enough to compensate for his defense.  Brooks is also a bad defender, but he has the tools to play defense and I'm more optimistic about Brooks learning to show some effort on defense than I am about Crawford.

At this point we have to get rid of him. I think Brooks is the better player/team guy to have around. Wouldn't mind to see him packaged with someone else to net us a true center.

I would trade him for an injured player in their last year contract i want him gone. A dummy move by danny to even get him in the first place

How is this a bad trade?? You give up nothing to take a chance on a talented guy and hope that being around a winning team and respected vets can have an impact. We've traded the vets and are in rebuilding mode, do he doesn't fit anymore. He makes next to nothing and has no real impact on us for now. Its a great trade, a smart trade. You go into it knowing there's a high chance he won't do much, but with a decent chance he turns a corner and plays really well for you. Zero cost option--- take them all day long. Saying this trade is dumb is lame, sour grapes. Smart trade and very glad Danny willing to throw the dice like this.  The downside is so minimal and the situation was right to take the chance.

So the Celtics have one too many contracts (if they keep Shav)

The Celtics contracts add up to $73.6 million (including Shav, per Hoopsworld)

The Celtics desperately want to get under the $71.75 million tax number.

Just cutting Shav's $1.1 million won't get them there, but getting rid of Jordan Crawford's $2.15 million would do it.

Teams can provide approximately $3 million cash in any trade for this year.

So it seems like it would be logical and easiest to ship Crawford out along with $2.15 million to a team with cap space.  The Celtics get under the cap and the other team gets to try out Crawford for free.  Maybe get a conditional 2nd rounder back.  That may be Danny's backup plan if he can't purge the roster any other way.

  • Everyone's excited for the new era.
I wish Crawford the best, but please get him out of here.

Not a fan of his game.

Agreed, Crawford is as good as gone.  Danny would probably trade him for a pack of Doritos if he were allowed.  I guess we'll have to settle for a 2nd round pick or something like that.

No worries guys...

Shav's contract doesn't become guaranteed until Wednesday (iirc*).

Ainge is just taking his sweet time.

Crawford was available for Jason Collins, after all.  And he's still here after a month of Danny trying to trade him.  He's got character issues and I wouldn't go overestimating the demand for him.
