We've had our numerous amounts of lovable role players, who've been a part of our legacy. Names along the likes of Eddie House, Michael Pietrus, Leon Powe, Delonte West, etc.
Especially Delonte West.
I'm a huge fan of him, and actually wanted him to come back. I felt that we should've picked him up when the Mavericks waived him. He was always loved in Boston, and seemed to play very well in Beantown compared to other averages in Cavaliers and the Mavericks.
I do believe that he was wrongly justified of being treated badly by the media for the guns. But I don't condone using guns, but I understand people need to protect themselves. My friend got robbed, and killed. I was actually a good friend with Chris Cummings, the college student who was murdered in Old Dominion University. And in that situation, I would've armed myself with a gun, if I had a permit or not.
“Reporters can’t write a sentence—they can’t write a sentence about even a good game—without mentioning something from four years ago,” says West. “There are plenty of players arrested for DUIs, gun charges, this and that. [Meanwhile], they’ve made me into the Terminator.”“My body is that of a guy who is 24 or 25,” West, who turns 30 on July 26, says seriously. “I think I can play this game 10 more years.”
Not just play this game, he corrects, but play it at a higher level than ever before.
“What I’m excited about is that I haven’t even scratched my prime,” says West. “Just give me a jersey.”
Give him a jersey and he’ll give you everything he’s got. After all, he’ll be playing for his name, for his namesake and for love.
“Basketball is all I’ve ever had,” offers West. “I won’t give the media any more excuses.”It bothers West because he believes coverage of the story has led, at least indirectly, to his 2010 exit from Cleveland, ’11 exit from Boston and ’12 exit from Dallas. It bothers him because he believes it’s hindered his ability to provide for his family. But most of all, it bothers him because it’s compromised his only haven.
“My whole life the court is the one place where people couldn’t laugh at my skin complexion, or the birthmark on my face or the red hair,” says West in a calm voice. “When I played basketball, because I worked so hard, it’s always been the one place where people couldn’t laugh at me.I think Delonte West does deserve a second chance. But not unless we can trim our roster down. Delonte West definitely has good leadership skills, and was a good presence in the locker room along with the abundance of leaders with him, Pierce, KG, Allen, etc.

I believe in order for this team to truly grow, and rebuild. We need to have a team full of players who hustle, and are scrappy. It proves they have heart, and being a leader on and off the court by playing hard ball IS INFECTIOUS!
Delonte West would be willing to do anything, and if it means playing a couple minutes per game. With 1-2 3's, and solid defense while playing hard. Then he's worth enough for a minimum contract as a PG/SG.
Give him a 10 day contract, nothing else to lose, and if he does well. Give him another 10 day contract. We need more veteran leadership, and I don't agree with the supposedly bad second stint last year. DA just didn't like his gun charges.
Unfortunately, I don't think he'll ever get a second chance due to his gun charges, and the fact Aaron Hernadez and T-Will are all infinitely out of sports talk as of now.
