I watched the presser and it was tough, but at the same time it properly closed a chapter. Some fans don't get it, but it's a business and even though Pierce looked and sounded emotionally drained he gets it.

Pierce said he wants to be a GM someday. And if he was offered same deal Danny Ainge got from Brooklyn, he said he would have taken it.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Agree, sentimental tears aside, I think it was time for them to move on. Couldn't stand watching the three of them playing their hearts out, and failing miserably.

It's a great trade for us.  Young asset (Brooks), expiring contracts (Hump + Bogans), Veteran all star & leader (Wallace), & 3 first round picks + the right to swap in 2017.

You take that all day.

I think I would characterize it more as, 3 draft picks spread over 5 years, a disappointment in Brooks, terrible salary guys we had to get included that cut 15mil off next years cap  that would have come off anyway with Pierce's expiring, one of the worst contracts in the NBA we have to keep for probably 3yrs when Garnett comes off in 2, and the right to swap picks in four years.

Not sure I take that all day.  There is something to be said for assets now.  Who knows if there is even a draft or an NBA season in four or five years.

Yep, you have to. It's not everyday that you get those type of offers from a Russian gazillionaire that's trying to win now at all costs.

Brooks is somehow disappointing because he couldn't land minutes behind Johnson ?

Terrible salary guys ? Humphries is expiring, as is Bogans...Wallace is the only contract you take on for more than 2 years.

3 first round picks, plus the right to swap in 2017.  You just murdered a team's future and their in your division.

Let me guess, your glass is half empty right now ?

I'm with Pierce, you take that deal all day.

We can move on, but I'm sure some people won't, and I think that even those who are moving on will feel the wounds torn open when KG and Pierce walk onto the parquet in Brooklyn black instead of Celtic green.

I agree that the deal had to be made, and was the best thing for all parties, but it certainly wasn't the ideal thing. And when I see Pierce clearly choked up about it, that only increases the sadness of the situation. Still, I'm hopeful for Boston's future.

glad Pierce took it the mature way unlike Ray who basically pointed fingers on everyone in the organization...

Danny tried to trade me wahhh
Rondo doesn't pass the ball to me enough wahhh
I sacrificed the most out of the big 3 wahhh
Doc didn't let me play the way I wanted to wahhh

would love to have Pierce sign a 10 day contract just to retire in green...KG too!

Most of us "get" it, but many of us aren't ready to move on, or let these wounds heal.

Paul has been my favorite player since the Bird days, (and KG the last few), and he was the only reason I kept watching this team through the lean years.

Those kinds of wounds go too deep for such quick recovery ... but some people just don't get that. ;)

Please feel free to move on if you are ready to do so, but don't tell the rest of us we need to do the same.

Each in his own time, thanks.

Agreed about the contracts. Although, if the chips fall just right for Boston over the next season or two—KO, Sully, Bradley, and Green become really good players next to Rondo; Boston nets a solid pick next year (pardon the pun); and Danny turns assets into a star player—I can see Danny bringing back Pierce and KG on at least 1-year deals as role players on a contender.

Well Paul not only is the Truth he speaks it too. I love that he calls himself a glorified role player. I can't recall any other guy, who has been the face of a franchise for more than a decade, doing that. And still I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being the Nets' MVP.

it just isnt 15 yrs of support, it is 15 yrs of extreme up and downs, and more downs, and more downs.  seeing pierce leave, for some like myself, will take more time to "move on".

Will i support the team, absolutely (ive had season tickets with my family since the 80s, and on my own during the 90s to today).  but thinking some people can just move on, isn't so easy to do.  aside from pierce being my fav player, the run the celts have had since the 07-08 season have been special.  the teams have reflected the city.....hard work, ubuntu, etc.  so even moving on from the last few yrs, isnt easy, especially knowing that we wont win much, we will constantly be the underdog, etc.

people "get" the business side of it, they "get" that the time for change was probably needed.....but it doesn't make it easy, especially since people here are fans.  fans get emotionally attached to the team, they become loyal to teams, players, etc.  "moving on" from such a major change, all within a month's time isnt easy

maybe its a generational thing, where young people are so used to living in "real time" and people are forgotten about as quickly as they were "it".  for some, especially people over the age of 25, the mindframe and attachment is deeper.

Wow, you took that completely wrong ... sorry I wasn't clearer in my intent. I didn't say you said should, either. TP and an apology ... it's a touchy subject for me ... as for "wallowing", harsh but realistic, I guess, if nothing else.

And it's not going to be easy, but the fact is the C's as we've known them aren't remotely the same and that chapter today. How fans deal with it is up to them.
