Not sure if anyone in the 5-6 pages of this thread had mentioned something along these lines, but perhaps signing him has a dual purpose.

He's obviously cheap and 7ft tall. Could be of some use for us on the court.

But maybe the other side of the deal is that he's going to be a good influence on Melo? Someone to live with/near and practice against everyday and help develop. Fab seems a bit sensitive at times and Faverani is a bit older, should be more mature. PURE speculation on my part, but Isn't it possible that Barbosa had said to Danny last year "you should look at brining Vito over at some point if you can. he's a decent player, but he would also serve as a great mentor to Fab, Fab really looks up to him and Vito would have a great influence on him?"

I think that's a lot to invest in Fab Melo.

Not really. Its very little money and they guy can play. We're not spending a million bucks on a tutor - he'll be the 10th man on our roster too. Plus this team needs a legit 7fter right now.

This is the year for doing something along these lines. Fab may well be a lost cause, but big men (especially ones that haven't played much basketball) just take more time to develop and reach their full potential. I guess we all forget that there were many nights (most nights!) in 2005/6/7 that 90% of this board thought that Perk was completely useless and should be cut at the earliest chance.

Agree, I think it is more about giving up on our investment in Fab Melo.  He has not shown enough to merit a mentor.

but best of all, i can now hope that at sometime during the season the celtics put on the court a front line of....

fab, fav, and shav.  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Is he being brought in to help Fab or is Fab going to be helping him get acclimated either was is a way to make the most of the investment they have in Fab while bringing in a talented big.

He reminds me of Sheed for some reason around the basket and his 3 pt stroke looks a lot like Sheed. He is an all around package. Will have to see how quickly he can pick things up.

This guy Faverini looks like a future backup center. Decent tools and athleticicm on the vidoe samples. Could be a third string or maybe even second string this year is the best case IMHO. That has some real value and is worth developing. Good job Danny.

Now all we need is a starting Center. Still a day late and dollar short there. Melo isnt ready yet and may never be, Randolph? give me a break. Wilcox? No way already failed, Sully, Olynyk, Humphries? They are PF and would be out of position. Who is left, Iverson? He went to Turkey and thats prob where he belongs.

Happy to have Faverini but would like to see a trade for Asik. He is unhappy and we have the pieces/picks to get him if we want.

If we dont add a player, I see Olynyk trying to start (with no NBA experience) Humphries and Sully at the PF. That spells tank to me because we have nothing else ready until mid season at least when Faverini or Melo may be marginally ready. They will still be a bust because that means learning on the fly.

Hope I am wrong.

I been saying all along that Asik will be a Celtic after Sept 12th..Houston are not going to pay 2 centers that much money and not play Asik, he is not a PF..so u may see Humphries or Wallac go for him
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

I'm happy with Fav and CI as my backups behind Asik this year.  (Or in intensive development, if the t-word is where the C's end up.)

I want Shav on the team as a third-string PF, behind KO and Sully, until Sully possibly gets traded for a young SG star (if need be, depending on AB's rebound this season) at the deadline or in the offseason.

I'm ready to ship Melo off as filler the way they packed off 3J last summer.  If they're stuck with Humphries, so be it, but I'd also be happy to see him shipped out for salary, roster and playing-time reasons.

Oh, and I'm factoring Bass in on the Asik trade, though it's possible that'll wait until September 12th, when Humpries could go instead.

If they don't come up with an Asik-level center, then yeah, I'd want to see KO and JS try to start together as well.

I could actually see Humphries getting some run at center as he has the beef for it.

Jim Cramer would be yelling sell on Fab!   Not worth investing really at all.   I see him more as filler, Ainge tried to pawn him off last year and failed.

Fav is going to put Fab in the NBA DL where he belongs.

Maybe in a contract year he'll show some heart.
