During the summer league Larranaga put The Big KO at the SF position.

I amwondering what you guys think of this lineup.

C Iverson/Randolph/Melo pick one ( maybe even Humphries)
PF Sully
SF KO
SG JG
PG Rondo

Essentially going big.  Offensively I think this is one of the better units lots of mismatches in our favor  we can put out there.  Defensively, 2 questions can Uncle Jeff keep up with a 2 guard and can KO play D at the 3?

I thought KO's defense was spotty to start with. Lateral movement issues. Putting him against a 3 is probably not the best plan, if that's the case.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

I think JG can keep up with a 2 guard.

KO would get embarrassed on a nightly basis against most SFs.

It's like Detroit with Josh Smith except reversed. Olynyk can shoot but probably can't defend the 3.

We also don't have 2 7 footers who can start. Sully is basically our only starting caliber big. Olynyk looks to be our only other capable big.

But I'm seriously interested in seeing how Brad Stevens uses Olynyk on offense. I saw him run PnR with Fab Melo in the summer league with great success which just blows my mind.

As for JG, I kind of wish Doc went with the JG/PP lineup a little more. JG can definitely keep up with 2's while on the offensive end he'd be a nightmare cover.

Goodness no.

Just thinking of KO trying to defend on the perimeter gives me nightmares.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

I don't think it would work all that well.

(1) Too limited defensively to guard quick forwards. Transition defense, stopping dribble penetration and closing out on shooters would all take a hit.

(2) His perimeter game would be defended against much more effectively by quicker opponents so his post game would become his main weapon. In that case, Boston would need two jump-shooting bigs to space the floor out enough to run him down low often enough to take advantage of that post game. Difficult to piece together.

I imagine it would look a lot like Pierce + J.Green together on the wings, lots of iso and post offense with limited ball and player movement that is far too easy to defend against.

I could see it as an option now and then but I think his main positions will be at PF and C.

Ko is a 4 and sometimes 5 vs small ball.

The only way he plays 3 at times is vs sfs like gerald wallace that cant shoot

I think is too much enthusiasm about KO. He played only few games in summer league what does not mean he is ready to play as a starter. For me, the best starting 5 will be:

C Bass
PF Wallace
SF Green
SG Bogans(Lee)
PG Rondo(AB)

Tayshaun Prince could probably blow him by walking horizontally. So, no.

There's no small forward, that I know of, that wouldn't be quicker laterally than Olynyk by a lot. It'd be awful.

Ohh, I gotcha. Agreed. :)

I wonder how strong KO is. Would be nice if he had the strength to become a fairly solid post defender.

Bogans has a career FG% of LESS than 40%:-((((  He has averaged 6.4 points per game for his career and he NEVER averaged double digits in points!!
