my one kelly olynyk regret is that he couldn't have been under the guidance, tutelage, and leadership of kg. anyone else feel the same way?
I don't know. I initially thought so, and then I think back to all the other players we said KG was going to educate-- JJJ, Fab, Steimsma, Erden, Hollins. I think we probably overplay the KG-as-mentor angle.
You ignore players like Powe, Perk, and Baby who made leaps in their games next to KG.
And you know, you conveniently ignored players with actual talent like Sullinger last year.
I don't think it's of any relevance to focus on no-talent players and how they played with KG. That said, Steimsma doesn't fit with the rest. A D-league player who flourished next to KG, but who was later buried in the bench in Minnesota.
TP.
I do agree.
Also, I really don't think Doc Rivers was a great coach in terms of developing players. He's a good coach who can utilize the talents of multiple talented players, and install defensive schemes. But his rotations, and managing minutes for players isn't good especially if their veterans versus rookies.
I give all the credit to the players being developed thanks to KG/Pierce/Rondo, and occasionally Ray Allen.
I've never heard Bradley, Kendrick, or Sullinger talk about Doc Rivers as if he was the Messiah. But you'd think so the way they talked about KG/Pierce and Rondo.
These 3 are the official leaders in my mind, especially Kendrick Perkins being best friends with Rondo. And as soon as Perkins leaves, look at how he plays?
