His short wingspan has a little more to do with his narrow shoulders than his arm length.  He has a solid standing reach of 9 ft.  His poor shot blocking has more to do with his vertical.

Good points. Reach is standard. Some guys who have nearly the same height, longer wingspan still have about the same reach as Olynyk.

Olynyks shoulder is narrow but not overly like J Oneil or Bosh. But it could also be why he is quite agile when he moves.

Wingspan i don't think has anything to do with dribbling or shooting mechanics. Just look at Rondo with his enormous wingspan. Jordan had a long wingspan but he could shoot really well.

Wingspan does help though in the ability for someone to get an out of area rebound. Get to looser balls a little quicker, get more steals and makes a difference when blocking shots. When you see players block shots its only 50 percent of the time its going straight up. The other 50 percent, they are twisting their bodies, reaching with their arms, and this is where again longer wingspan can help.

To me if Olynyk could do this and rebound better, he prob would of gone #1. I'm just happy he is a competent defender , works hard and is 7 ft tall. A big adv being this tall is that his two strides is equivalent to others taking three or four strides.
