He wasn't gonna play anyway with Calderon and Harris on board.

I thought they took away the Harris offer no? But they got Ellis too now.

I hadn't heard that.  But you may be right.

In any case, the Mavs don't seem interested in playing their young talent.  They are like the Nets in that respect.  Not interested in building through the draft.

They wanted to bring Shane Larkin along slowly. Start him off as a third string PG and have two established PGs ahead of him. Like they did with JJ Barea.

He doesn't have a signed contract yet.  It would be a shame if this hurt him.

I don't think it can hurt his contract situation, pretty sure first rounders are guaranteed a min. two year contract.

It can hurt his salary. NBA teams can pay above slot by 120% or 125% can't recall.

Sometimes teams nickel and dime players on the extra money, make it incentive based. Not likely with Cuban, but its happened.

That does suck for him, but Cuban won't screw him. Cuban's track record is pretty decent.

I'm just basing it on the fact that even as they've gone through this "soft rebuild" to preserve cap space over the last couple of years, they prioritize spending money on free agents instead of trying to develop players.  Who on that roster right now is a consistent contributor who was drafted and developed by the Mavs other than Dirk?  I'm pretty sure the answer is nobody.

That would really bug me if I were a Mavs fan.  We complained about the lack of player development during the Big 3 era around here, but it's been a lot worse for the Mavs.
