I can't even believe this is a question. Folks jump on Miami fans as being fair weather....what do you call picking another team to beat your supposedly favorite team?

It's obvious bait to see who is committed to tanking and wants the Celtics to lose every game.

Is this a serious question?

Celtics, of course.

I'll also be rooting for the Nets to do really bad next year, so we can get a higher pick.

I'll always have great memories about KG and PP, but that's it. I'm a BOSTON CELTICS fan.

I am a CELTIC fan, not a PP or KG fan. I wish them the best as former Celtics, however this question is blasphemy.

Rooting for the nets 4-0
It will help them for home court advantage during the playoffs and will help us to get a higher pick.
Pride or ego has no place for this matchup, unless you don't want the nets to win this year.
To me it's a no brainier, celtics has to try to win against Miami, LA and New York Knicks. And the rest of the teams they can experiment systems and develop young players.

This one is too easy:

I have been rooting for the Celtics before KG and Pierce were even born. WHY ON GODS GREEN EARTH WOULD I CHAINGE NOW? I evolve with the Boston Celtics and there is an office for me in the rafters for Boston Garden when my time is due.

TPs to those who pick the Celtics. And who says we are tanking. Brad Stevens, Jared Sullenger, Jeff Green, Rajon Rondo, Kelly Olynyk, and Brandon Bass do not impress me as tankers.

Tanking is for Sydney Wicks, Curtis Rowe, Greg Minor, Todd Day and Mark Blount.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

I was royally confused why 7+ people had picked the Nets...

And then I realized we're tanking.  Every loss this year is a step closer to a brighter future.

In a bubble that doesn't include the big picture, though... anyone who roots for the Nets over the Celtics isn't a Celtic fan.

Celts, no question.  wouldn't mind seeing KG and PP both have great games as long as we win.

I root for the front of the jersey.  Players come and go but the front stays the same.

There's no bubble, though.  We're talking about the teams meeting next year, when the Nets are pursuing a championship and we'll be pursuing Wiggins or Parker.

I'm pretty surprised by the righteous indignation of so many responders here.  "I'm shocked -- shocked! -- that a Celtics fan might root for his team to lose!"

I've seen the majority of this blog root against the Celtics in 2007.  Apparently, those fans have either had a change of heart, or have just gone underground.  Very few are admitting right now that they'll be openly rooting for losses, which many fans will be.

Yeah.  The question confused me.  When I thought about it, I realized there is definitely a scenario where I'll be rooting for Brooklyn to win that game.  Unless we come out of the gate shockingly good, I'd rather we pile on the losses this year for a shot at one of the 6+ studs in the draft.

I think fans will always rationalize the goals of their team.

If the team is trying to win they'll root for it. If the team clearly isn't they'll root for the draft pick.

I think the only real spot of incoherence is when people start out the season wanting to lose games. That's a strange place to be as a fan.

I have no problem saying I was rooting to lock up the 2nd most ping pong balls compared to Memphis in 2006-2007. I wanted Oden badly. He was magnificent for Ohio St, just beastly. Only foul trouble (which would be easier in the NBA) held him back.

I'd love for the team to play well and for Rondo to bounce back, Green/Sully/Bradley to step into bigger roles and succeed. But I'm also not adverse to missing the playoffs if they come up lacking. I just want the C's to get better by hook or crook.
