In light of all the how awesome Olynyk may be, I say just get rid of him now unless we want to play him major minutes to tank. He's useless. He's ceiling is not even Greg Ostertag. He needs a new name cause there is nothing "Fab" about him. Can't even rebound. If he could just block shots that would be enough to keep him. He can't rebound or block shots so what's the point? I've seen no development other than he's in better shape. Trade him for any 2nd round pick. I'd much rather keep Iverson.

Best Case: Brendan Haywood
Worst Case: Desagana Diop

the reason id get rid of fab is to make room for players that have value, like pressey, iverson, and others.

I'm not convinced Pressey will have a better NBA career than Melo.  He might, but I don't think it is obviously going to be the case.

Yep. He's not a project anymore. The untrained eye can tell that, after a year of intense drilling, he simply doesn't have it.

Iverson and Pressey are at least realistic - they can actually give you regular season minutes. And we should be spreading them around this year, pick and choose among these young'ns for the future.

TP Tarheel. Right on. Cut your losses now. To see him actually play NBA minutes makes me queezy.

I think after the first week of the season Pressey will have a better career than Melo had or ever will have.

I don't think Fab's ceiling is the basement, at all.  Unfortunately, I'm starting to doubt he has what it takes to ever get anywhere near his own ceiling.  Shame.

Bodies like his just don't come around all that often.

The name I keep throwing around as a comp for Melo is Ian Mahinmi.  Defensive big who can come in off the bench and protect the rim for 15 minutes.  Probably doesn't stuff the stat sheet, but can nonetheless be a useful rotation player.

Melo has the tools to be more than that, but I want to see him show a working knowledge of fundamentally sound basketball before I start expecting more.  His hands worry me, but I wonder if his deficiencies in that area are caused by a childhood of soccer.  Maybe they get better with practice and repetition.  Until/unless they do, he'll always be a poor rebounder and finisher for his size.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
Then let's hope he does reach his ceiling, then...I don't like the idea that Fab Melo is lurking in the underground.
I like Marcus Smart

Fab had a 15p, 16r, 14b against tougher competition in the D league.  Your turn!

I feel bad piling on the guy, but he just seems like a tall kid who isn't coordinated enough for pro ball. No point in developing a slow learning backup C when Iverson shows up looking ready to fill that role.
