Maybe he is better than C.Iverson. I have no idea. I have never seen this Faverani guy play.

I think that's a better role for Iverson right now, unless he gets stuck at third-string because Sully is playing center to Olynyk's 4.

His stats this year where the 4th best team in Spain. Looks more like a role player.

I have this suspicion that guys who are capable of being role-playing back-up centers sometimes have unimpressive stat lines in lesser leagues instead of dominating performances.

For example, Greg Stiemsma averaged 8.7 points and 7.4 rebounds in 50 D-League games and, I would argue, is an adequate NBA back-up center worth at least the minimum salary, but some people seem to think that any NBA-caliber center should be a dominant force in the D-League who racks up huge counting stats.

Role-playing big men sometimes look like role-playing big men no matter what level they play at.

I like the look of him. Good size and bulk. Looks like he is going to be able to body up centers in the post defensively which is a major problem for the current roster. Shows some decent athleticism on some of those lob finishes too.

I am thinking as a starter but only a 15-20mpg type starter. I think his frame, his size and muscle, will be of more value there in a minor starting role than as a bench big.

That should be read more as an indictment of this team's roster and glaring hole at the center position than praise for Faverani.

Sort of like when Toronto started Aaron Gray last season (2011-12). A big physical post player. Short minutes. Just come in and bang to start the game. Set a tone. Body up those bigger opponents at the center position.

You really can't because of how out of whack the Center market can be.

It's more or less minimum guys and then anyone above that can jump all the way up to 10 million, for sure if they are younger and have some potential.

Heads up as well: Iverson can go play overseas and we will still have his rights.

Hm. Don't know anything about him and didn't see ANY signings coming. Cool though. Hope it's not just to mentor Fab, that's looking more and more like a lost cause.

You don't know anything, because there's nothing to know. He's a 25-year-old nobody from the Spanish league, who has never averaged 10 ppg or 5 rpg in his 5-year pro career.

Strictly a warm camp body. Can also be a favor for an agent -- it has happened before that NBA teams would sign players for the headlines, then cut them first day of camp (Boyko Mladenov to Sacramento in 2003 comes to mind).

How in the world would you know this? You are deserving of a front office position for this single post.

That's what Danny said too, but maybe he saw the FA market wasn't waiting for him to divest his overstock.
