Seems like a given he ends up in Brooklyn or New York on a vet minimum contract.

@KevinDing:  Wonder what team comes in and swoops him up.

How about the Sin City Team from the "INSTITUTION for the CRIMINALLY INSANE" ?

I don't think he and Paul could be on the same team.

I was thinking Brooklyn too.

How does this save them $30 million?  Hoopshype says he is an expiring at 7.73 million.

Yeah, I'd imagine Pierce would rather that not happen.  Not as if Metta provides anything of use that another player couldn't.

the way amnesty waivers work i don't see him making it to free agency. someone will put in a claim for more then the minimum. that said i expect the winning claim will only be around $3 million, mid level amount tops.

Luxury Tax implications.  Tax rates for repeater is like 3:1

Seems like a strange time to amnesty him.  Unless they make further moves they will still play the luxury tax this year.

The Lakers have four amnesty-elible players: MWP, Kobe, Gasol, Steve Blake.  All four of them are on expiring contracts.  You can amnesty MWP, amnesty someone else, or not amnesty anyone at all.

They'll still be paying the luxury tax, but they'll be paying a lot less.  As in tens of millions less.

That is true.  It is just bizarre to see the Lakers losing FA and cutting players only to save money.

Mark Cuban was right.  They should have amnestied Kobe so he can take a year off to get healthy while they avoid the repeater tax in the future.  They would win a lot less games without Kobe for sure which would help them land a better draft pick.  (If they have a first next year)
