Gigi Datome or bust ....
He may sign with Memphis and Celtics are out of the running

Has it been reported that the C's are out of the running?  Do you have a link?  Thanks.

What's the deal with Cole Aldrich? Total bust, or did he just not get the opportunities to show his stuff?

I might take a flier on Aldrich, Brandon Wright, Greg Oden and Andrew Bynum in terms of big men not named JJ Hickson. The idea being to see what you've got in one of these guys and hopefully strike gold and retain their rights next summer if they can become a key building block.

Aldrich purely on a 1 yr vet min deal to see what he's got. Slightly more for Oden, and more $ but only 1 year for Andrew Bynum. Brandon Wright could be a good player in terms of the direction the Celtics are heading. He also could be had at a reasonable rate.

In terms of unexciting but potentially necessary players, I think Sebastian Telfair may be a decent backup for Rondo. Provided he is cheap (vet min), I'd bring him in. There's not too many attractive options and Telfair is seasoned now. Not exciting, but a true backup PG is needed.

I would like to see Aldrich or steimsma signed for short cheap deals. Winning or not I would still like to see a team that plays solid defence and I believe e his starts with an anchor. Fab may some day play this role but I don't see it happening this year, Kelly , sully and bass do not have the size or length to fill this role.

I have lost confidence in Aldrich. He has shown so little quality in the playing time he has received. I know he hasn't played much but I would've liked to have seen some more positives out of him by now.

Not much more than Dwayne Jones.

Then I think Ainge concentrates on attempting to move long term salary for expiring contracts.

Moving long-term salary for expiring contracts generally means sending out assets like young players or picks to compensate the other team.  That sounds like the opposite of what Ainge would do.

I could see Ainge trying to move the expiring contract of Humphries for a worse player on a somewhat smaller expiring contract.  I could see Ainge offering up Jordan Crawford or Marshon Brooks to anyone who will cough up a draft pick.  He might even be willing to take back a second-rounder.

Since we are in a rebuilding process, Datome and Oden make the most sense to me as we need players at SF and C. But of course Danny has to get rid of some players first.
The fact that both Datome and Oden are still on the market makes me believe they are waiting for Boston offer. It also make sense for them to come in Boston as they will play more minutes than in memphis and miami.
Other than that I can see Barbosa coming back.

I know what it means and I see him moving maybe a future 1st rounder and Brooks or Bradley or Melo to get it done.

We got MarShon who's basically Jordan Crawford, but less chucking. Send Crawford to Indiana for a future first rounder. For FA, I think we should sign Greg Oden and Corey Brewer.

If you can get a first for Crawford I think you have a future as a GM.

And the guy who gives up one for Crawford won't have a long one.

Not sure how we need SFs when our starting position is all but cemented. Also, rebuild with two 25-year olds? I've seen better plans.

25 years old is young and as a fillers with potential I don't think you can have better players. I expect them to be very cheap salary. Makes sense to me.
What do you suggest that you think DA should get this summer?

For better or worse, the answer is zero.  There's no need to sign anyone because Boston's got to figure out what it has first.  Are Sully and Marshon Brooks legitimate starters?  Is Jeff Green a potential all-star?  Can Rondo be the top dog?  Can Stevens handle the NBA?  Is Melo a bust?  Is Olynyk a 4 or a 5?  Can Avery become a consistent scorer?  What style is the team going to play?  What can Ainge get for Kris Humphries?  Is this team bound for the lottery or the Eastern Conference playoffs?

Even signing Oden to a one-year deal would probably be the wrong move because those minutes should be going to KO, Melo and Colton.  It makes for a boring off-season but I don't see any reason to plunge into this free agent market.

Brooks is trash and I wouldn't mind sending him out but I don't see Ainge parting with a first-round pick anytime soon and I think he sees Bradley as being as important to the Celtics' future as Sullinger, maybe more so.

So it takes 2-3 years to figure out whether Datome is an NBA player and whether Oden can stay healthy -- and they're already at the tail end of their primes. I wouldn't bring 25-year olds in unless they're a surefire thing.
