if drummond is not in it,  danny says no.   people keep claiming he's dealing rondo,  and he might,  but it's going to mean getting back a ton.  danny loves trade rape.
I mean Danny would probably START by asking for Drummond, Pope and a 2014 1st at the least.

This thread had an EXTRA short life span haha. TP for the effort.
Wow... i posted this seconds before the Pistons apparently signed Smith.

I think that gives this thread even more lifespan.  That's a team that is looking to win.   Smith is a PF.  It doesn't make a ton of sense to have Drummond (C), Monroe (PF/C) and Smith (PF).

I say they go after ROndo hard.

What is your interest in launching Rondo outta Boston? This is the 2nd post in the top 8 from you relating to ejecting Rondo for various pieces.

I'm honestly asking. You don't like him? Think he doesn't fit? Punched your grandmother after she beat Rondo at connect 4?

Why?

throw in a first + Drummond, then we'll talk. I love Rondo and have no problem building around him, but as Danny said, if the right deal comes, I would listen. Rondo imo is worth 2 first rounders, and I think Drummond is an excellent athlete (needs to work on free throws but the kid will improve)

If smith just signed 4 years 54 mil... what's that mean?  13.5 mil a year?

I think they still have like 7 mil in cap space.

So we could actually throw Bass or Lee in there as well.

Detroit Trades:  Knight, Drummond, Stuckey (expiring), Charlie V (expiring)

Boston trades:  Rondo, Wallace, Bass/Lee

I would even go as fare as to replace Wallace with green for this deal. I like the young back court of ab and knight, Drummond is a great prospect and will fit nice with sully and Olynyk. Keepi g Wallace hurts, but with suck a you g team cape space would. Of be needed for a few seasons.

Well, then Detroit says no. I'd love a deal of even Monroe and KCP and any future pick, but even that is probably unreasonable. If we got Monroe from the Pistons, that'd likely be the only real talent coming in. Drummond is likely untouchable.

Would love it if we got Drummond. DA might even takr Stuckey if he can dump Wallace and Bass. He'd take all of Pistons expiring contracts

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Danny is in no rush to 'dump' Rondo. If we make a trade, it will most likely include Drummond, but will at least be Monroe. Detroit is the team that will want this done.

If we think back a couple of year to when we traded Perk to OKC, we ended up with Jeff Green, the #22 pick, and another center who was [at the time] more productive than Perk really ended up being that season.

I guess now that I think more about it, the trade will probably be Monroe, since Drummond and Smith are their building blocks, but we will also get some assets/clear contracts...I don't know that I am psyched with trading Rondo, though.

I'm pretty tired of hearing that Detroit would say no. Boston is the one with the 4-time all-star, 2-time league assist leader, 2-time all-NBA 1st team defense, championship caliber point guard. Drummond put up 9 double-doubles last season...that is nice for a rookie big man. Rondo averages 20/season and 8/playoff.

While I understand we're going through a rebuild I'm not exactly looking to auction off a top-5 PG for nothing. So far as I'm concerned, no Drummond, no deal. And even with Drummond I want some cap relief. He's far from a sure thing at this point.

It's nuts to me that Detroit wouldn't at least consider this. They have a middling team right now. Adding Rondo makes them a dangerous team. I don't think they get out of the East but I do think they upset maybe the Knicks or Pacers.

However, next season, if they make a run at a healthy Danny Granger and fill out a veteran bench they'd be a threat to come out of the East...especially if James goes the LA.

Well, you need to get used to Detroit saying no to that deal, because it is just incredibly unbalanced.

I think its possible that Detroit could give up Drummond for Rondo.  Unlikely, but possible.  But, if they did, they wouldn't also give up Knight AND take on Wallace.

I also agree with you that Drummond may be a deal breaker for the C's (although I could see them liking Monroe too, who is a VERY good young player).

From the C's perspective, I think trading Rondo comes down to 1 question.  Would they be getting a prospect who has the potential to be good or better than Rondo, and who might be in a better position to help the team longterm than Rondo (who could concievably be an issue for the C's to keep, if they are not dedicated to paying him max type money after next year).

There aren't many players who fit in well with this scenario that teams would be willing to give up for Rondo.

The reason Drummond keeps coming up is that he is one of the few guys who could fit this description, and who could be available because of a GM motivated to win now, and because of Drummond's lack of fit next to their new star PF.

Drummond, while still a big risk, it the type of player who could concievably come in and be a top 10 player in this league within a few years.  That is the type of player you take a chance on, even if it means giving up Rondo.  It also is the type of player that you don't give up very easily if you are Detroit.

So all in all, I think, despite the fact that these two teams do match up in a trade for a lot of reasons, I don't think it's likely either team pulls the trigger.

I agree the OP trade is unbalanced but I don't think that Rondo for Drummond is balanced our way. The point I was making is that Drummond is a bunch of potential with some notable flaws. Rondo is a proven NBA star with (hilariously) similar flaws. The difference there isn't small.

The problem I had was that Detroit fans (and even some Boston fans) were hyping a guy who's done next to nothing in the NBA and diminishing a guy who, as I put it earlier, is very accomplished. That is all I was calling attention to.
