Why would either team do this trade?

Utah is set on being serious contenders in a few years once Favors/Kanter get some experience. They just drafted Burke to keep the idea of competing later, not now.

Meanwhile, Hayward and Burke would be a horrendous return package for Boston. Sure they're young, but neither are ever going to develop into a player that even approaches Rondo's caliber - and I'm a big Hayward fan and watched a lot of Burks when he was in Colorado. There would have to be at least two or three first rounders involved in this deal to make it appealing for Boston.

In my opinion, you're completely overvaluing Rondo. Arguing for a pick would be one thing, though Id far prefer to shed players like Lee or Bass than add more picks right now. Arguing for three is a tad extreme, amigo.

I disagree. The ceilings for Hayward and Burke aren't high at all IMO. They'll be very solid players, but we're talking about trading away a proven all-star who is a stud in the postseason. Three might be getting carried away, but I think two is more than appropriate.

Fair enough. I a) see more upside in both players than you do, and b) don't believe Rondo is as valuable as you do. Regardless, there is literally no way the Cs are getting 5 or even 4 prospects for Rondo alone -- much less dumping salary in the process -- even from a team like Utah anxious for a PG.

whats the point of trading a top 20 player for a platter of poo? i honestly dont get it

Hayward is not poo. Hayward is a young and dangerous upcoming sg. Can go on fire mode at any point. In addition has played for stevens in the past.

But Jazz wouldn't do this trade. Trey Burke is their future star pg

Compared to Rondo, Hayward is poo.

I get what your saying but if you make this trade are you selling a bit low on rondo. yes but that's kind of the point. If this team is truely looking for a high lottery pick this helps the Cs in a few ways. Gave them two young assets who will have plenty of minutes too show off there skills while losing games and hopefully improving the Cs 2014 pick. Also I think  the familiarity with Hayward would help Stevens transition into the NBA

Utah is one of the few sensible destinations for Rondo. Word had it they were highly interested in Bledsoe before he went to Phoenix, and they have cap space to absorb some salary.

My idea: Rondo & Lee for Hayward & Burks.

I'm a fan of both these players. Hayward is reunited with his college coach. Cs have nice assets on the wings for development or trade (i see Hayward as more of a building block, Burks as a bit more of a project or 'piece'). They also clear a ton of room for rebuilding / summer of 2014.

Rondo is not walking out of that door.
