Why would either team do this trade?
Utah is set on being serious contenders in a few years once Favors/Kanter get some experience. They just drafted Burke to keep the idea of competing later, not now.
Meanwhile, Hayward and Burke would be a horrendous return package for Boston. Sure they're young, but neither are ever going to develop into a player that even approaches Rondo's caliber - and I'm a big Hayward fan and watched a lot of Burks when he was in Colorado. There would have to be at least two or three first rounders involved in this deal to make it appealing for Boston.
In my opinion, you're completely overvaluing Rondo. Arguing for a pick would be one thing, though Id far prefer to shed players like Lee or Bass than add more picks right now. Arguing for three is a tad extreme, amigo.
I disagree. The ceilings for Hayward and Burke aren't high at all IMO. They'll be very solid players, but we're talking about trading away a proven all-star who is a stud in the postseason. Three might be getting carried away, but I think two is more than appropriate.
Fair enough. I a) see more upside in both players than you do, and b) don't believe Rondo is as valuable as you do. Regardless, there is literally no way the Cs are getting 5 or even 4 prospects for Rondo alone -- much less dumping salary in the process -- even from a team like Utah anxious for a PG.
