In three years, the Lakers will return to the playoffs behind young superstar Andrew Wiggins. Dwight Howard will spend a year saying "I love Houston, Houston is my home, I want to end my career in Houston" but he won't sign an extension. Then in the off season he'll leave Houston to join the knicks.

They should have pushed for a S&T to the Warriors. While Houston is a better fit than LA, I think Warriors would have really complemented Dwight's style, and LA could have gotten Thompson or Barnes back. Now they have nothing, and they are looking like a lottery team this upcoming season.

Who should they have been pushing?

I'm not really extra extra ecstatic about this
I'm more feeling like an evil genius, grinning quietly anticipating that destruction of the Lakers would soon happen

Now the Lakers have to trade Pau Gasol while he still has value for future picks or young talent.  The cupboard is dry for the future right now on a very old team.

Wow.

Biggest chip on the market and the Lakers have no picks, tradeable assets nothing...nada.

The writing was on the wall but they didn't wanna see it.
This is one of the biggest G.M./Ownership FAILs I have witnessed.

same thing could have happened to us with KG and PP. Maybe some here are awake now and have come to their senses.

Yep. People wonder why DA didn't try to rebuild around KG and PP. And the Lakers are a destination spot Boston is not. DA did what he needed to to keep the team from becoming irrelevant in the next couple years.

I can imagine a chorus of boos pouring down on Dwight Howard when Houston visits Los Angeles Lakers.

But then again, I couldn't care less about that drama queen. He got what he deserved.

As for the Lakers, they are just the Fakers. With their center being Antawn Jamison or Robert Sacre and their starting PG is a 40 year old Steve Nash, life is good.

And with the 1st pick in the 2014 draft, the Los Angeles Lakers select....

Yup. Lakers are fully joint the tank party and they are going to be AWFUL
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

I don't think letting them retire in green would have been the worst thing in the world, at all.

We'd be rewarding the vets' loyalty. There is value in letting them retire. We'd be preserving their legacy.

Whereas Dwight is just out to get his. So are the Lakers. The Lakers' management got outmaneuvered by this clown man child.

What the Lakers get by letting Dwight go is front row seats to another team reaping the full benefit of what should have been theirs.

Not that I'm unhappy with the BOS-BKN trade. I'm very happy. Ainge made a great move. Allowing KG and Pierce to have a shot at another championship while accelerating the rebuild immensely is huge.

Some (not saying you) called the "keep KG/Pierce" group irrational and foolish. The haul was DeAndre Jordan, one pick and they wouldn't even throw in Bledsoe. Their legacy is worth far more.

Point is there is a huge difference between the Dwight situation and the KG/PP situation.

Dwight Howard redeems himself with this one. Hopefully, his game is rejuvenated as well.

The lakers blog is a pretty fun read right about now.

With Philly starting to tank at the draft, something I don't believe has ever happened before in any sport, the Lakers are going to be hard pressed to suck their way into Wiggins.  I mean, they'd basically need to add no one of any value this offseason and then trade Gasol for peanuts to get in the running.

And convince Kobe to not play or not try his hardest to win every game.  That'd be the toughest sell of all, especially with the clock running down so fast on Nash too.  Kobe will want to make a go of it no matter what the payoff of tanking is.
