Has to be a All Star for an All Star. And no, we're talking about Jamal Magloire type of All Star. A productive one who can be a second option to any team, first optiong in bad teams.

2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

If we're talking about Rondo fully healed from his ACL injury:

Prospects (not Fab Melo prospects, but Derrick Favors/Andre Drummond prospects)
Unload Gerald Wallace
2014 1st rounder(s)

And for the last god darn time, Lee is not a bad contract, and Bass is borderline, but not something the C's are forced into dumping.

A young player with All-Star talent.

Who isn't a one-dimensional offense-only player.

Finally, someone with some sense in this thread!

Why is everyone focusing on Rondo trades now, while his value is probably at it's lowest point in the past 3 years?

Assuming Rondo doesn't play til December (I'm guessing more like after the All-star break), this team will have likely accomplished being a bottom 3-5 record. Normally this isn't a good thing. The 2014 draft class suggests otherwise.

Rondo will be at least close to 100%. His ACL injury was not as serious as most, and nothing like Rose, who had full tears in his ACL and MCL. Maybe he loses a bit of his first step (which, for a player like him, does affect his game), but he will be healthy enough to showcase to contending teams.

By this point in the season, we can gauge what teams will likely also be in the bottom 5. Trading Rondo at this point in the year would also make it more likely to be able to include Wallace and/or Humphries in deals, to maybe get back a more developmental young star with some picks.

Here are some deals I'd be willing to do for Rondo. Pretty much all of them favor the Celtics, but I think given the fact that we don't have to trade Rondo and even if we do we are in no rush to do it, we should have the leverage to get the other team to overpay a bit.

If we aren't getting back at least equal value then we shouldn't trade him and I'd expect Danny to make sure we are only taking calls on deals that he thinks we could get the better of. These probably aren't all realistic, but they'd be my starting point:

Detroit:
Rondo, Wallace for Drummond, Stuckey, Charlie V.
Rondo for Monroe, Knight, Stuckey, Charlie V.

SAC:
Rondo, Lee for Cousins, Salmons, Thomas, Fridette, McCallum
Rondo, Bass for Cousins, Salmons, Patterson, Thomas
Rondo, Lee for Cousins, Salmons, McLemore

ATL:
Rondo for Horford and Schroeder

DAL:
Rondo, Lee, Bass for Marion, Carter, Larkin, Ledo, 2 future firsts
Rondo, Wallace, Lee, Bass for Marion, Carter, Larkin, Ledo, Crowder

ORL:
Rondo for Orlando 2014 first, Vucevic, Harkless, Nelson
Rondo for Orlando 2014 first, Harkless, Nicholson, Turkoglu
Rondo, Wallace for Orlando 2014 first, Nelson, Turkoglu, Harkless
Rondo, Wallace for Orlando 2014 first, Denver 2014 first, Nelson, Turkoglu
Rondo for Orlando 2014 first, Denver 2014, Sixers 2016 first/Orlando 2016 first

CHA:
Rondo, Wallace for Gordon, Sessions, 2015 unprotected pick
Rondo Wallace for Gordon, Sessions, Detroit and Portland 2014 picks (protection probably carries them over to 2015/2016)
Rondo, Wallace for Gordon, Sessions, Kidd-Gilchrist, Detroit/Portland pick
Rondo, Bass, Lee for Gordon Sessions, 2015 unprotected pick, Detroit/Portland 2014 pick

UTAH:
Rondo for Hayward, Burke, Gobert, 2015 first unprotected
Rondo, Wallace for Jefferson, Burke, 2015 first
Rondo for Kanter/Favors, Burke

Most of these are unrealistic so you're saying you wouldn't trade him unless you were blown away with an offer...

Either:
1. A young potential star like DMC or Drummond or Monroe or Favors plus an unprotected 2014 first rounder

Or

2. the first overall pick in 2014. I'd throw in someone like Sully for that too while talking back some mediocre players to make the salaries work.

Nice to see it's not a massive discussion on why Rondo sucks/doesn't suck completely deviating from the topic and ending with 2 or 3 guys completely dominating the conversation and going nowhere. He's a polarizing guy and engaging discussion is certainly good but it gets tiring after a while.

2014 late lottery + another solid, younger asset (like an Ed Davis off the top of my head) (we turn back the clock this way)

Derrick Favors, DMC or any other underachieving potential game changer (not John Wall)

Actually, considering the wiz have actual asoirations now, wall + 2014 is pretty enticing

Straight up I would not consider Wall. Maybe if we move Green as well.

Wall + '14 is definitely enticing. That I would consider.

Most of these are unrealistic so you're saying you wouldn't trade him unless you were blown away with an offer...

Basically, yeah. I prefaced them by saying they are favored to the Celtics and probably unrealistic, but that would be the return I'd start asking for.

The OP said the trade is for Rondo back at full health and averaging the same numbers he has all his career. For me that makes him a top 5/7 PG in the league (Paul, Parker, Westbrook, Rose, Curry and Irving are the ones in the same class, I think Williams, Holiday, Conley etc. are a notch below).

Now pretty much everybody in that top 5/7 is absolutely unavailable for even being considered in a trade, except Rondo. You have to pay a premium just for the opportunity to get a guy in that small category.

Then if you look at the recent deals for Paul, Williams, Holiday and throw in Harden too, as a starting point:

Paul went for Eric Gordon, Kaman, Aminu and a first rounder.

Deron Williams netted the Jazz Derrick Favors, Devin Harris (who had high value at the time) and 2 future firsts.

Holiday got traded last week for the 6th overall pick (Noel, who could have been the number 1 overall), a 2014 pick and a 2nd rounder.

Harden went for Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb, 2 future firsts and a 2nd rounder.

I think Rondo (at full strength/healthy) is worth the more than Holiday or Williams and close to/about the same for Paul and Harden. Looking at it that way then I don't think those deals are that far off. Again they're admittedly favored to the Celtics in most every situation, but thats what Danny starts off asking for and then can relent (a bit).

Your'e not going to get that type of deal now, but under the assumption that he is at full strength and playing as well as before he should bring back at least a similar amount as the deals for the guys I mentioned.
