(1) I hated the Melo pick. I wanted Moultrie or Perry Jones. The jury is out on all three of these players.

(2) If Melo was full strength last year, I think he has no future.

(3) If Melo was healthy having that string of great games in the winter, and then it was the quadraceps that made him suck for the rest of the season, there is hope.

(4) If there is significant truth to the line they were wearing Fab Melo down with pre-game workouts in Maine in order to improve his conditioning (quote below), there is hope

“His conditioning has gotten so much better. When he was with Maine, we’d be doing workouts with him before the game. Sometimes he was tired four minutes into the game because he was working out for an hour and a half before. We’re more concerned about Fab’s development than we are about necessarily winning all the games in Portland.”

Have we ever heard anything positive from Danny or Doc about Fab's work ethic?

Even that last quote seems to be about the team putting *him* through a workout.

Given all of his limitations, if he hasn't shown that burning desire to put in those extra hours to develop his game, I think we have our answer.

I haven't given up on fab. I learned my lesson after giving up on avery

1.) Everyone in FO knew he was a long term project when he was drafted. He has not played competitive basketball that long (IIRC only 6 years). His selling point was his fast improvement in Syracuse going from basically lost in the court doing basics to being very productive.

2.) He showed flashes in Maine that he can contribute for a team in a positive way. I think he can already contribute for us the minute he figures out defensive rotations, which is I think the only thing hindering him from seeing NBA court.

You know who else was lost in the court looking like a deer caught in the headlights the first years of his playing career? Yep, Avery Bradley. And look at him now.

Fab will get there.

I don't know whether Fab will ever make it in the NBA or not.  What I DO know is that he is quite possibly the worst player on an NBA roster right now.  Atrocious. 

So basically, he has a long way to go.  And the longer one has to go, the less likely they are to ever get there.

Melo will be on the team through 2014-2015 at a minimum, unless he's already proven to Danny that he doesn't belong.  His 2014-2015 option has to be picked up by this October 31st.  It would be shocking if it weren't.  Unless he makes zero progres this season, I'd be surprised if he didn't get through all four years of his rookie deal.  It was known that he was a project when he was picked -- it would be short-sighted to cut bait so quickly.

I haven't given up on Fab. It's stupid to do so. He was drafted as an extremely raw prospect. There are guys who aren't raw and are expected to transition into the NBA seamlessly, but still have a few underwhelming seasons before getting it. To give up on a raw prospect after one season spent in the D-League just doesn't make sense.

That being said, I haven't heard him make any significant strides in his development at all, and I certainly don't expect him to be a contributor for the C's this year. And despite our absolute lack of depth at the center position, I'm not even confident he'll even play for the C's this year.

Well, there was that triple double game in the D-league. That was slightly impressive. My hope is that he'll become a decent back-up, at least. I'd be happy with that.
