The San Antonio Spurs and Tiago Splitter are finalizing a $45 million contract over the next five seasons.

The Portland Trail Blazers had been preparing to sign Splitter to an offer sheet.

Splitter had a PER of 18.7 over 81 games this past season as his minutes increased to 24.7 per game.

Wow, surprised to see Splitter get that much. Quite the contract to live up to.

Why are you surprised, prime 7 footers get paid.

Always have, always will.

I don't like long contracts like that for non-stars.  He's worth the salary, but not the years.

As a 10/6 guy, I wouldn't call him prime, but 9 million a year doesn't totally surprise me. I agree with Atzar that something like a three year contract may have been more appropriate.

With other interest around the league, I guess the Spurs didn't have much of a choice.

There won't be a fifth year on the Splitter deal. The terms will be four years, $36 million-plus, sources tell Y! Sports

I like this deal for Spurs, especially when there is no 5th year. I thought he would get 8M per, but considering Deandre Jordan is getting almost 11M per year, 9M for Splitter is a good deal.

Prime as in athletic prime or prime years agewise. Splitter is signing for his best years of basketball.

No way he isn't offered 4 years by some team looking for a big man.

Especially considering how terrible he looked (to me) for most of the Finals. He looked uncoordinated, and like he didn't know what to do when he got the ball. Wasn't impressed.

He was pretty awesome before the Finals though and was very good in the regular season.

Splitter averaged 6.1 pts and 3.1 rebounds during the playoffs and only played 24.7 minutes a game in the regular season.  That got you 9 million a year for 4 years.

Gerald Wallace averaged 30 minutes a game during the regular season and got 12 pts and 4 boards per game during the playoffs.  He gets 10 million a year for 3 more years.

Spurs signed Rasho Nesterovich to a 6 year 42 million dollar deal.

He averaged 11.2 points and 6 rebs before getting that deal in the regular season and 9 points and 6 rebounds in the playoffs.

At roughly the same age as Splitter too. Funny to see such similar deals.

Splitter is a center comparing him to a SF is pretty idiotic when centers all ways get paid a premium.
