Hearing the Pistons called about Rajon.  What would they have to offer?  What would we want from them?

I'm tired and lazy. TP's to anybody who can spit out Rondo's full career resume.

I'm trying to do some comparisons in my head and having a blonde moment.
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

Team that desperately needs a good point guard expresses interest in the availabilty of a good point guard.

If Rondo, now that the Big Three are gone, comes back to start the season and goes 17/11/6/2 50% FG%, 70% FT%, 30% 3PT%, this year and makes another All-Star game, a lot of you guys are going to need to adjust where you rank Rondo amongst the best PGs in the league.

It was just 2 years ago when people had Tony Parker almost falling out of the Top 10 PGs in the league. The last two years he asserted himself more as Manu and Duncan took smaller roles in the regular season and some are now saying he is the best PG in the league.

Funny how those things work.

That was supposed to happen this past season when everyone was saying it was "Rondo's team" during the preseason. The Big 3 gone, and subsequently losing their spot up ability, will only hurt the pass first style of Rondo and the lack of spacing/teams playing off him will also hurt his ability to penetrate.

I think Parker is a much different case than Rondo because he's a scoring PG. So with Duncan and Ginobili taking a backseat to him it allowed him to be more aggressive with his scoring.
With a young running team any assists Rondo loses in the half court because a loss of KG, Pierce, and Terry will be made up for in transition assists. I think Rondo might break 12 assists a year in an uptempo transition style offense.

But on the flipside, our interior defense is going to be so bad that it's going to make it that much harder to get stops and in turn get the break started. Teams are going to be going inside on us all day, either via the post or just attacking the basket. Our best shotblocker is?
Absolutely marginal effect. If the Celtics play at a higher rate more possession will be created. Also, 25 teams in the league have an eFG% of less than 52%. Which means, no matter how bad the defense, the C's are still going to be getting a bunch of possession they can break on.

Wait, you think the lack of interior defense has a "marginal effect" on our overall ability to break?

I'll gladly bet you that he won't achieve the numbers you mentioned above...as many TP's as you want in fact...

17/11/6/2 50% FG%, 70% FT%, 30% 3PT%

Keep in mind though that his career high in each category is...

13.7/11.7/5.6/2.3  50.8 FG, 64.7 FT, 31.3 3's

Are you really that confident that he could achieve those numbers coming back from a torn ACL and with a much weaker supporting cast?

I doubt the Pistons move either of their young bigs, but if it was gonna happen I would think Monroe, as they have 2 additional years of (cheap) control over Drummond. Monroe is a darn nice player, but 15 and 10 and not a big shot blocker shouldn't be untouchable. Drummond looks like he might be the better of the 2, at a more-premium position.

Now if it was neither, I think about the best the Pistons could do would be:

Rondo, Wallace, Lee

FOR

Charlie V (expiring), Stuckey (expiring), Knight, Kaldwell-Pope, 2017 1st rounder

I don't love any of those pieces, but the combination of cap relief and 3 young players isn't terrible.

Consider this options with no Drummond or Monroe involved:
Rondo and Wallace for:

Charlie 8.5 expiring
Stuckey 8.5 expiring
Knight
Option to swap for best of 2015 picks (Detroit, Boston, Clips)
#1 2016 unprotected

Positives:
Puts us well under the cap after next season -- puts us in the market for a quality FA in 2014.
Provides 2 expiring player assets (one a valued player) to use at trade deadline if desired.
Adds tradable asset in Knight.
Provides possibility to swap Clips or our pick for Pistons pick (if better than either) in 2015.
Provides another #1 in 2016
Makes us worse in 2014 for high lotto pick.

Negatives:
Lose all-star PG

15 and 10 is very, very good for a 22yo center in the NBA.

I'm trying to do some comparisons in my head and having a blonde moment.

Four time all star, four time all defensive 1st or 2nd team, two time top ten MVP voting, one time all NBA third team, top 6 in playoff efficiency rating in 2009 and 2012, best player in the series in 2010 vs. Cavs, two time league leader in APG, one time league leader in SPG.

That's the abridged version.

Edit:

Oops, too late.

should be more sorry about the proposed deal

Rondo for Knight,  1 first rounder and the rights to swap another -- just to dump Wallace?  horrible, horrible, horrible.

Rondo doesn't go to Detroit under any conditions unless Monroe or Drummond is coming back.

I don't want Brandon knight to be honest, i take sticker expiring and Charlie V expiring, 2015 first 2016 first both unprotected if we cant get Drummond or Monroe. If they have 2014 first, clearly want that first over any.

Probably is not a great deal.  But looking at it as Rondo for Knight to dump Wallace is a glass half-empty and incomplete assessment.  Bottom line would have to include Stuckey re-trade, better 2014 pick and FA additions post-2014. Plus picks. When said and done, this is not as one-sided as you conclude.  But you are probably correct that Danny would not do this type of trade.
