I mean, a lot of them apparently feel that Calderon is a better option than Rondo.
A lot of people believe 3 point shooting is an absolute must for guards.

Funny thought. If we trade Rondo we might be the only team in the league without a very good to elite PG or a super young prospect PG in the whole league.

What about Indy, Wolves, Knicks, Rockets, bobcats, raptors, kings, magic?

George Hill is solid-very good. Rubio? Kemba's young and ok, with potential. You're right on the others, and forgot the mavs and heat.
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Reading through the comments of that Pistons blog article is a great eye-opener.  People outside of the Boston / New England bubble definitely don't have as nearly high an opinion of Rondo as the vast majority of people around here.

Even Rondo "haters" on here, I think, would disagree with the general attitude about Rondo displayed in those comments.

I mean, a lot of them apparently feel that Calderon is a better option than Rondo.

It was a little disgusting, but to be fair, I think they prize cap freedom more than they dislike Rondo. After the Gordon/Villanueva fiasco, I can understand why they don't want Wallace, but Rondo would make that team quite excellent - especially if they didn't have to part with Drummond/Monroe, which would be ridiculous.

A lot of people believe 3 point shooting is an absolute must for guards.

Other common refrains are that Rondo is too much of a locker room cancer, that he'll spend most of the rest of his contract recovering from the injury / working his way back to form, and generally that he's not good enough to justify taking on Wallace's contract.

It seems that outside of Celtics nation, Rondo doesn't really have that mystique that his playoff performances have conferred upon him for Celtics fans.

They seem to be under the impression that taking back Gerald Wallace's contract and sending back expiring deals and Brandon Knight would be enough to get Rondo.

I wouldn't consider any trade idea that wasn't headlined by Monroe or Drummond. No exceptions.

We are in no rush to move Rondo, there will be a team out there willing to overpay for him if we do move him. Drummond or Monroe or we just keep playing the waiting game.

TP for the link.

I can't believe that most of the posters have no interest in the deal if it involves Gerald Wallace. They seem to think his contract is not worth taking on Rondo. Funny since all of us here don't even consider the deal without Monroe/Drummond. It seems we are VERY far apart on a deal.

I think this fact that Wallace's deal is considered so toxic means we really need to showcase him this season. I have no doubt that he will be considerably better next season and the fit with NJ will just be considered a bad one.

In addition, if Det happens to sign Josh Smith, maybe Monroe becomes a bit more expendable...no matter what, I really don't have any interest in dealing Rondo. He is the face of our franchise and [apparently] a really underrated player.

Yea I read that last week. Detroit fans are delusional.

Deron Williams was traded for Derrick Favors, Devin Harris (who was playing very well for New Jersey at the time), and two 1st round picks.

Chris Paul was traded for Eric Gordan, Al-Faraq Aminu, Chris Kaman, Minnesota 1st round pick, and two future 2nd round picks.

The value of a perennial all-star PG has already been established so why in the world do people think they can get Rondo for Brandon Knight and Kyle Singler? I understand Rondo is injured but even when he's healthy I still read some pretty insulting trade offers on other teams forums.

*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

I have one question about draft pick protection:
So Charlotte has Detroit 2014 first round pick, but is protected 1-8.
Basically, if Pistons pick 1-8 pick remains their
if its 9-30 goes to Bobcats.
Did annyone know (Mr.Roy?) can Pistons trade same pick unprotected in any deal? Like to C's first round pick if its 1-8, and if its not then first round pick in 2016...
thanks

I believe you can do that if you'd like.

The Lakers traded a first round pick to the Suns for Steve Nash this year that was unprotected, but due to other trades was set to be the worst of Clevelands 3 first round picks (ie the Heat's) unless the Lakers were in the lottery.

Then the Lakers would keep their pick from the Cleveland trade as it was protected but would be forced to send it to the Suns.

The problem with this idea is that Detroit wouldn't really want to do it and the C's would face huge uncertainty on when they'd get the pick if ever.

Indy - George Hill - very good
Wloves - Rubio - very good and a super young propect
Knicks - Raymond Felton - very good
Bobcats - Kemba Walker - very young and a young prospect
Raptors - Kyle Lowry - very very good
Kings - Isiah Thomas - Isiah Thomas - very good and a young prospect

Okay, you got me on Houston and Orlando ;D

Both Deron and CP3 have averaged 20-10 for at least one, if not multiple, seasons.

I don't think we can expect to get that kind of value for Rondo, whether or not you think Rondo ought to be valued on the same level as Deron and CP3.

That's just how it is. Rondo's perceived value on this board is just perception. He's a top 10 pg coming off an ACL injury.

As for Monroe and Drummond, I think the Pistons would rather build around Drummond. There is also growing concern that those two can't play effectively together since they basically occupy the same space.

That's the thing -- as Nick has pointed out, the vast majority of teams in the league have pretty good point guard situations as it is.

Most of them have point guards who are younger and cheaper than Rondo.  Point guards who have never had ACL injuries.

So in truth, the market for Rondo is actually probably a lot more limited than you might think.

Speaking of Rondo, Felger and Mazz are talking about trading Rondo ad nauseam. Felger actually said the following, paraphrasing here...

My sources, and I'm not one to claim to have sources, but they've been pretty [dang] right lately, tell me the reason why Rondo wasn't on the bench for game 6 on the playoffs against the Knicks was because he was basically undercutting Doc. He was calling out plays from the bench and it was interfering with Doc's coaching. It was so bad that Doc told him to get out of here.
