Makes sense.  I thought about that a couple days ago.  A team of Rondo, Smith and Monroe would be solid.

I wonder if they'd give up Drummond for Rondo.  Probably not.

Drummond + Knight would be incredible.

Drummond + Knight + a future 1st would be a complete heist.

Drummond + Knight + their unprotected 2014 pick... Joe Dumars deserves to be fired.

They could send back Charlie V's expiring contract to make salaries work.  If they wanted to include Stuckey's expiring as well...

Drummond + Knight + Stuckey + Charlie V + Unprotected 2014 pick for Rondo and Gerald Wallace ...  LOLOLOLOLOLOL.  Heath Ledger's Joker is apparently running the Pistons.

Rondo for Drummond, Stuckey, and unprotected first round pick in either 2014 or 2015 draft.

They'd have to give up either Drummond or Monroe, who make about the same salary.  Monroe is currently more essential to what they do.  Drummond would become a key piece to the Cs' future, or a future trade chip.

They would also need to include Stuckey to make the salary match work and to give us a PG in return.  Stuckey would be great because he's an expiring contract next season.  Ainge could flip him in a trade or simply let him walk after the season, clearing $8.5 million from the books.

A first round pick would need to be thrown in to sweeten the pot, in my opinion.

I'd do this deal. Drummond is a potential defensive beast, will be perfect if Olynyk's offensive potential pans out. Stuckey is not a great, but not a bad option at PG  and we get a pick.

I always said we should not trade Rondo unless we get an all star back, well Drummond is no All Star but his first year in Detroit seems to indicate that he will be in the next 2-3 years. I'm on board with this. Will Detroit be?

I never understood why people think this. He is a very bad option at PG. Turrible.

Check the first reply, Pistons can't give an unprotected 1st - Charlotte has the rights with protections that decrease through I think 2016.

Limits what they could do for Rondo - I'm sure they'd give up Knight but without Monroe or Drummond they're not going to be able to put much together.

I wouldn't say he's turrible. He's aight. I've seen a lot game where Stuckey was solid.

Good combo guard, but he doesn't like that role by all reports.

It looks like a real possibility that Iggy will be headed to Detroit, since he's familiar with Coach Cheeks from his Sixers days.

Rondo, Smith, and Iggy would make for quite an interesting trio...if Detroit can somehow make those salaries work.

I don't think they'll sign both Iggy/Smith its one or the other.

They'd probably have to renounce all their cap holds, use the amnesty on Charlie V, and then make at least one of those FA signings via a sign and trade . . . and even then I am not sure how they do it.

Drummond is the only guy I would trade RR for on their roster.

Yeah, no point in trading Rondo unless you're getting a prospect who you think can be a star.

Knight isn't that prospect.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
http://www.detroitbadboys.com/2013/6/29/4477970/rajon-rondo-trade-pistons-rajon-rondo-gerald-wallace-brandon-knight-rodney-stuckey

They seem to be under the impression that taking back Gerald Wallace's contract and sending back expiring deals and Brandon Knight would be enough to get Rondo.

I wouldn't consider any trade idea that wasn't headlined by Monroe or Drummond. No exceptions.

We are in no rush to move Rondo, there will be a team out there willing to overpay for him if we do move him. Drummond or Monroe or we just keep playing the waiting game.

TP for the link.

I can't believe that most of the posters have no interest in the deal if it involves Gerald Wallace. They seem to think his contract is not worth taking on Rondo. Funny since all of us here don't even consider the deal without Monroe/Drummond. It seems we are VERY far apart on a deal.

I think this fact that Wallace's deal is considered so toxic means we really need to showcase him this season. I have no doubt that he will be considerably better next season and the fit with NJ will just be considered a bad one.

In addition, if Det happens to sign Josh Smith, maybe Monroe becomes a bit more expendable...no matter what, I really don't have any interest in dealing Rondo. He is the face of our franchise and [apparently] a really underrated player.

i would do rondo and gerald wallace for drummond charlie v and an unprotected 1st id even have the celtics throw in a pick if neccessory, then we are in full out tank this season, have a future center on hand, future small forward on hand, and a 1st overall pick with a bunch of cap space next off season :o

Reading through the comments of that Pistons blog article is a great eye-opener.  People outside of the Boston / New England bubble definitely don't have as nearly high an opinion of Rondo as the vast majority of people around here.

Even Rondo "haters" on here, I think, would disagree with the general attitude about Rondo displayed in those comments.

I mean, a lot of them apparently feel that Calderon is a better option than Rondo.
