MarShon Brooks is my least-favorite type of player: a scoring two-guard who is a poor three-point shooter and doesn't play defense.  He is reportedly part of the Nets trade, which is good because he is a trade asset, but I don't see him as a Celtic three years from now.

The Minnesota Timberwolves, whose roster is pretty wing-deficient, were reportedly interested in trading the #26 pick in the 2013 draft for him.  The Timberwolves picked up three extra second-round picks (Golden State, New Orleans, LA Lakers) in the 2014 draft.

So, I propose MarShon Brooks to Minnesota for two second-round picks.  In addition to their four picks for next year, they have extra picks in 2015 and 2017 (top 55 protected).  They also drafted a Eurostash player in Bojan Dubljevic at the end of the 2013 second-round who could be substituted for a pick.

I honestly have no idea what Brooks is worth, but I think he is a prime candidate to send to a team with cap space, in order to get further below the luxury tax.  Maybe you could get a heavily protected first for him, but I doubt it.  If you can get a couple seconds, then I would probably take it.  Maybe see if you can get them to take Crawford too.

Yep, ship Crawford and Brooks out of town for whatever non-cap-impacting assets we can get, in my opinion.

No room for no-defense chuckers on a young rebuilding team.

How much is he worth?  I wouldn't be shocked if a year from now the Celtics would be lucky to get one second-round pick for Brooks.

Not interested at all. I think Brooks could be worth a lot more than that.

He showed some flashes in his rookie season of turning into a potential all-star caliber player. He looked like one of the best draft steals of 2011. He got stuck behind Joe Johnson this year, but I think with quality minutes he could develop into a valuable scoring rotational SG or potentially even more.

He needs the opportunity to play loose and make mistakes, which he can do on a rebuilding squad.

The kid is a high volume scorer and could be that impact player for a second unit. I say hold onto him and see if anyone is willing to give up more value.

He has 2 years left on his rookie contract and is only 24. He is exactly the kind of player we should be holding onto and developing as an asset going forward.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
I think we will have a big problem scoring if we trade both Brooks/Crawford. Sure, we are tanking, but we don't need to be scoring 60-70 points a game until Rondo gets back.

I say keep Crawford and trade Brooks. I don't like MarShon either, but Crawford at least has a 3 point shot and showed decent defense last year. 2 second round picks is a good haul for him.

Second-round picks are useless. Brooks has some potential, and is a good trade asset. No.

Second-round picks are useless.

I think at least half of the GMs in the NBA would disagree.

A former top 5 pick was just traded this week for the equivalent of four 2nd round picks.

  • Be the posts you wish to see in the world.
But this would deprive us of the epic 1 on 1 showdowns Brooks and Crawford would have in practice.  Usually with 8 other guys standing around looking annoyed.

Minny traded their 2013 first round pick for the 2014 Warriors 2nd round pick you mention.

It's rumored that MIN rejected Brooks for the 26th pick and preferred to get the Warriors' 2nd round pick instead. If true, it's hard to see them turning around and trading that same pick, much less that plus another pick, for Brooks now.

Also, if the rumor is true it appears that Marshon is already being over-valued by some people above (welcome to the Celtics!). He was worth less than a low 2014 2nd round pick as of five days ago based on these rumors...not sure why he'd be worth more now.

Of course some of this is hearsay, so take it as such, but the sources include Ford and Stein, who are at least among the more reliable ones.

Nice finds.

Although, Minnesota also offloaded the salary of Malcolm Lee while trading the rights to the player taken at #26 for that GSW 2nd rounder (and cash). While small, those fiscal motivations for the Wolves might have been greater than their desire to add Brooks on Draft Night.
