Why not just use the trade exception we are getting?
Trade exception and filler for shawn marion and shane larkin.
One, that exception has not been confirmed as it will all depend on how the trade is structured.
Two, the exception, as proposed, isn't large enough to fit Marion's contract so your trade proposal is out of the question.
Are you allowed to use the trade exception along with other salary to make up the difference between thetrade exception and the marions contract. Could you work out a three team trade that would bring back slightly less salary to fit within the exception? There are plenty of teams who might value marion on a one year deal. There are creative ways to make it work.
It doesn't have to be a very creative trade. If instead of structuring the Nets deal into multiple pieces for trade exceptions the trade were just completed in a single transaction, the Mavs could just hop onto the deal as a third team and send the Celtics Marion (and presumably Larkin). The Celtics have the room to add between $14-$15 million in salaries to what they're taking back in the trade, since they're sending out about $8 million more to the Nets than they're taking back. Marion's $9.3 million could easily fit into the deal, and Dallas wouldn't have to take anything else.
They can talk about Rondo if they want, but the Mavs don't have the pieces for Rondo, since they, at present, can't trade any firsts until 2020, and have little young talent. If Danny bites, I'll be very ticked, since there are definitely other places for him to go.
