Seems like a real nice kid. Improved a hell of a lot in only a year. Could be great value. Just needs longer arms dammnit.

Yeah he self promotes himself as a brand ambassador which isn't good for the organization. They must hate him so much. He acted like he was an insider on the Doc Rivers to Clippers saga when he simply had no idea and was going off emotion. I mean Danny decided to blow up the team and didn't want to pay Doc 7 million to coach a rebuilding bum squad. Why waste the money if you can also get a first rounder? Simmons never considered that side of the argument and torched Rivers publicly for things that were basically conjecture and opinion.
I don't mind him for the most part, but he can be extremely annoying. He just doesn't shut up about going after Josh Smith. He seems to think with Rondo and Josh Smith we'd be a serious contender lol.

He isn't the sharpest tool in the shed either when it comes to trades or strategy.
He was completely over the top about moving KG and Pierce to the Nets like we somehow got a bad deal.
Anyone that can't see the logic in the trade is a little too emotionally invested in the 2008 era. Perhaps he'll cool down.

Can portray a serious tool factor but I must say his articles on draft night are some of the funniest things I've ever read.

He's just a really passionate fan. He almost reminds me of a casual fan sitting behind you at the Garden explaining what Danny Ainge needs to do everyone but he really has no clue what he's talking about. (emotional, romantic, overly critical of every move etc).

Yeah, Simmons is a bit of a tool and a clown, but he was absolutely right to remind people of SAS having the Doc story, clearly from his camp, days after the end of the season.  That was also apparently enough for Danny to hold a next-day conversation after that and then send a letter the day after that.

Simmons was going on nothing other than what is public knowledge and he was right in the Doc case.  Sure, eventually after Doc had all bridges aflame, the C's management decided just as well to save some money and get a pick out of the disaster, but by all counts your reversing of the timeline is as off as Doc's disingenuous attempts to do the same.

I thought he came across really well in that. Pretty good answers to most of the questions.

If only his arms were as comparatively long as his face.

I like Simmons.  I appreciate that he is upfront with his fandom rather than trying to veil it like other reporters.

His interviews are great.  He does know a lot about basketball--his Book fo Basketball is flawed but immensely enjoyable and loeaded with information.

I personally appreciate that Simmons does not put players on a pedestal.  Sometimes it is annoying and is disrespectful but I think it is sincere--he's not doing it purely to get attention.

I prefer Simmons incredulity towards players over worship.

Whenever I want to throw up over Magic calling Wade the "most unselfish person on the planet" or the footwashing other "reporters" do I appreciate Simmons more.

I also dont get people knocking Simmons opinions because he didn't play NBA.  I suppose you could turn it around and say NBA players cant criticize journalists because they've never been a reporter.  It doesnt seem like a fair argument to me.

I love Simmons. He will call you out as a fan/journalist. His podcast is my favorite. :)

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
People criticze Bill Simmons too much...

Come on.... The fact is Doc was a pansy. He didn't want to admit he didn't want to rebuild, and could've just said it.

He's acting like Ray Allen with constant remarks, and confusing answers/replies. You didn't want to coach a team that's rebuilding. We get it, stop trying to defend yourself, and make yourself look good.

You left us. Case closed. Just say you left us to chase a ring like Ray Allen, and we'll be okay with that. The wounds will heal over time.

As for the video, Kelly seems like a very intelligent person. I hope we'll see what happens soon, I really enjoy NBA job interviews, because it lets you see into the mind of the player. Although, I wish all the questions weren't so structured...

I think that the problem with Simmons in this Doc situation is that Simmons has no value beyond his contract with whomever. He can't relate to the fact that even though Doc had a contract with the C's, the Clippers also valued him to the point of giving up a first round pick for him. Nobody else is knocking on Simmon's door to get him to come work for them and willing to compensate his employer so he hides behind this Doc Quit bull.
I think he needs to grow up.

I like Oynyk and the interview makes me like him more. I think he can turn into a poor mans Dirk.  Maybe someone like a Detlef Shrempf.  He'll be solid.

On the Simmons thing.  I enjoy him and his podcasts, but let's be honest.  Simmons has quit on the Celtics more than any true Celtics fan should.  When things are good, he is all happy and green, when things go bad he rips everyone a new one.  Like someone said in a previous post.  He is that crazy guy at the game who has all these opinions and a lot of them are just ridiculous.

On the Doc thing.  People need to chill out on Doc.  Why you would side with Simmons over Doc is beyond me.  Doc gave us 9 solid years and banner 17.  In the words of Wyc "We are square, Doc owes us nothing."  You can't rip Doc for being vague and not answering questions over the past month.  What is he supposed to say "Oh yeah, Danny told me he is going to trade KG and PP for sure which is why I decided to move on."  That would have ruined every ounce of leverage Danny would have had in trying to move those guys.

The story is simple.  Doc was contemplating retiring or coming back.  The clips were interested in Doc.  Danny was ready to blow it up. Doc didn't want to go through a full tear down.  Danny saw he could get something in return for Doc.  Doc wanted a little more say in personnel moves.  The owners thought its best not to pay a coach 7 mill a year for a tear down.  Everyone worked together on a mutually beneficial result.  Ubuntu.  Plain and simple.  Don't stress yourself out by trying to find people to be upset at.  Enjoy the ride.

A lot of athletes, coaches, and front office people like to insult the fan's intelligence and Simmons won't let them. He has a lot of enemies because of it.

I agree with this. People give Simmons way too much flak simply because he's never played in the NBA or held any sort of position in the league.

Simmons always says what's on his mind, which will always turn some people away, but he always gives his reasoning, and does it in a way that is far less obnoxious than, say, Stephen A Smith or Skip Bayless.

Beyond that, he's certainly one of the most entertaining personalities covering the NBA right now, and I really appreciate his sense of humor and pop culture references.

I laugh everytime Jalen tells Simmons "Dont get fired." during a Grantland podcast.  Imagine what Simmons says off camera!
