Kelly Olynyk looks like the morally innocent but lethal in battle son of Tormund Giantsbane.

If you don't get what I'm talking about, don't worry about it, its dumb.

like that is always lethal." - Evan 'The God' Turner

A lot of athletes, coaches, and front office people like to insult the fan's intelligence and Simmons won't let them. He has a lot of enemies because of it.

Good take.

I laugh everytime Jalen tells Simmons "Dont get fired." during a Grantland podcast.  Imagine what Simmons says off camera!
Simmons is entertaining, that's his job and he's good at it. I don't always agree with him, but I appreciate his perspective.

I'm not worried about Olynyk's wingspan...yet. He is going to have to prove he can get his shots off, defend and rebound, though, but so does every rookie in the NBA.

Totally agree!  Kelly would look much more imposing with a beard.

The question is, can he actually grow one?

Judging by the wisps on his chin, I'm gonna say no. Sadly.

Yeah, this was my assumption, too.

I guess he's only 22 or whatever, though, so maybe there's still hope.

forgive for not remembering the exact source or measurements, but the camp measurements said that olynik's wingspan was a few inches less than other centers in the draft. but, his standing reach was as good, or better, than other centers in the draft.

this means, probably, that he has narrow shoulder and this might be a problem if he tries to bulk up with muscle mass.

but for rebounds, etc. his standing reach is fine. it will be his agility and jumping that cause the trouble there.

but, against most 2nd string centers and power forwards i think he will be fine. he will be a good off the bench player....i hope.  :)

and yes, the kid is smart, which i hope means he can be a good team player and help others succeed.

I suspect that, with the help of a good big man coach, Olynyk might be that guy who boxes out his man but nevertheless gets out-rebounded.

Great Interview. Very likable guy. Combined with Sully and Bradley that is a pretty serious minded core of guys. Also they are people that could deal with Rondo's ego pretty well.

Zero quickness and with those stubby arms will need to use his smarts (like Sully). Hope this is not a problem in terms of being able to play them together.

All you need is hustle and I see that in this kid. I remember the knock on Sully not being an above-the-rim player but as Kevin Love says, most rebounding is done under the rim anyway. However I'm confident Kelly can consistently finish strong above the rim and we need points wherever we can get em.

The thing about Olynyk is that he is smart, skilled, has great work ethic and still has some upside, because he used to be a point guard. And that is a classic DA pick: A guy who might be underrated because of some red flag, but still has the personality to work around his flaws. It doesn't always work out, but it is a pretty good strategy, if you are picking outside the lottery.
