Wallace?
Starting at power forward.
I'm pretty sure Wallace ain't doing that ever again after all his concussions. Maybe Green would start at PF w/ Wallace at SF.
Even then, given our current objectives, I'd rather start one of the younger guys and bring Wallace off the bench.
I mean, if your goal is to ensure that Wallace misses half the season, then yeah, start him at PF.
Gerald Wallace is the better option from a defensive and rebounding point of view than Jeff Green is at the power forward position. I think Green should stay at SF.
Wallace's speed and slashing will also help open up transition offense and the halfcourt offense for what will likely be an offensively challenged team. I think it will be the team's strongest unit.
I also want G-Wallace to play big minutes because I think he can put up good numbers here (14-15ppg, 8rpg in 32-35mpg) and improve his trade value immensely. In which case, I would be optimistic about Danny's chances at trading G-Wallace at the trade deadline or in the summer and getting that bad contract off the C's books. Which I think should be a priority for this Celtics team.
I agree that Wallace is the better fit at PF than Green skills wise, but I don't think he can hold up doing that for 50 games, let alone 80.
I'm not sure Gerald has it in him to average 14 and 8 anymore.
If he gets injured, he gets injured. It is not something I am going to worry about.
It is not like the team loses anything by him going down. They can't trade him now anyways so no change there and they will still have plenty of forwards available to fill in for him so it's not like they are going to be stuck if he is on the sidelines for awhile.
So what if G-Wallace gets injured? The team will have lost nothing. Nor gained anything. But if he can stay healthy and be productive? Then they have definitely gained something. They made him a trade-able asset again. And if he isn't productive? He loses his minutes to the reserve big men anyway.
I am not sure Gerald Wallace has 14/8 in him anymore either .. but I do like his chances.
I think he still has enough athleticism in him to do some damage. Especially on a team like this where there are (1) limited offensive options so G-Wallace can play a bigger role than he would get on a top team, and, (2) if G-Wallace is playing the four spot instead of the three spot, a position where G-Wallace has more advantages offensively matchup wise + is closer to the rim to grab extra rebounds. (read: pad his stats)
Good opportunity for G-Wallace to be productive and make himself a trade-able commodity once again.
