MUST READ, REALLY ???

Seriously, I feel like a straight up idiot now that I've learned the last two years are unguaranteed. Can we get a mod to remove that part from the title please?  :-[

http://www.hoopsworld.com/bogans-getting-paid-well-in-celtics-nets-deal

This article has the figure at $5,058,138 for the first year. Last 2 years are not guaranteed. So we will have roughly around 19 Million dollars in expiring contracts this year between Humphries, Crawford and Bogans. By doing a sign and trade it also means that we will not be able to use the MLE and we will have a hard cap of about 75.6 million this year.

why do does cap space matter to you if we're rebuilding? we need different sized contracts, expirings, etc... first as trade assets.

the bogans contract will be a great asset

It would've been an issue if we had to pay him for 3 years, but as some shrewd users here brought up, the last 2 years are non-guaranteed. Bogans is indeed a great asset.

Yeah, the non-guaranteed deal in year 2 could actually be a nice trade chip.

Honestly I wish the CBA allowed us to pay Bogans like $14 million for 1 year and not take back Wallace.  Ridiculous overpay 1 year deals are rarely bad, and often actually become assets.

What prevents the C's from doing that?

The CBA.  More specifically Brooklyn doesn't have Bogans' Bird rights so there's only so much they can sign him for with their cap situation.

Might be more to it also, I'm not a big cap guy.  But that's the gist of it.

The Nets might be okay with keeping Wallace if the Celtics keep Terry and give up a draft pick or two.
