This "rumor" makes no sense.  Dallas has absolutely nothing to offer.

I wouldn't even want Dirk (at his age and contract).
It looks like the rumour is at least partially based on the fact that the Mavs drafted Larkin, who was supposedly liked by the Celtics -- but you must be a comedian to think that any sort of package with Larkin as its centerpiece would be enough for Rondo.

Disagree big time. Nowitzki is arguably the best PF in the NBA and would love to have him on the Celtics.

Remember that as talented as Rondo is, he's not a franchise player and Dirk is.

It makes sense that Dallas would ask about Rondo.  One way it might make sense for the Celtics is if Ainge is interested in a sign-and-trade for OJ Mayo and is interested in seeing if Dallas can acquire other assets to ship out with Mayo.

Who would you rather have three years from now, Nowitzki or Rondo?

Plus, Nowitzki is a free agent and I suspect he would leave at the end of his contract if still a Celtic.

Dirk would have no interest in waiving his no-trade clause to come to Boston and play with a bunch of nobodies.

Everything else on their roster, including whatever picks they would send us, would be junk assets.

I'm sure that if Ainge is asking for Dirk, it's because he want to trade him later. He's the most valuable asset we could hope to get in return from Dallas.

That doesn't sound like something Dirk would want any part of.

It might be Ainge saying that Rondo is as important to him as Dirk is to Mark Cuban.

It could be if Danny talks him into it. He can be pretty persuasive. He may tell him I already have a deal in place to send you to a top contender.

I think it's partly that the Mavs reportedly had no interest in paying a 1st round pick's salary to keep maximum room for FAs.

Drafting Nogueira fit with this, but then getting Larkin makes it seem likely that they don't really want to pay Larkin, but are hoping to use him as a cheap PG prospect to dangle as a replacement for the higher end PGs they're really angling for.

I doubt we'll be the last team with a top PG the Mavs offer a Larkin-based package to.  But with the last deal and our interest in Larkin, it makes sense we'd be the first.

Well sure, if they made it a three team trade, that might work.  As two separate deals, I doubt Dirk would be buying what Danny is selling.

But what team is going to want Dirk that would have anything good to offer us?  Teams that would want Dirk would likely have nothing but expiring contracts (if we're lucky) and crappy picks.  Yuck.

Anyways, I'm done discussing this.  The entire concept is ludicrous.

Dallas and Boston discussed a Rajon Rondo trade, league source confirms. As I said earlier, the Celtics like Shane Larkin quite a bit.

Alex kennedy

If this is true why didnt we draft larkin? And if he wanted to trade rondo he could have done that in another deal.

I hope this is not true about rondo maybe going to dallas

Maybe because the Celtics like Olynyk more than Larkin.

can we kill this thread?

Danny Ainge has denied trying to trade Rajon Rondo, and two league sources corroborated his stance by dismissing a report that the Celtics president discussed a deal that would send Rondo to Dallas.

"The Celtics haven't had any conversations with Dallas about Rondo," said one source. "That's ridiculous. There's no truth to it. What in the world does Dallas have to offer for Rondo?"

A second source refuted the report by pointing to the state of the Mavericks roster.

"They're trying to rebuild around a 37-year-old Dirk Nowitzki," he said. "They have a lot of old expiring contracts, and that's about it."
