The Mavericks are engaging in trade talks involving Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo, sources tell DallasBasketball.com. Meanwhile, Dallas has taken a position on Chris Paul and is also investigating bids on point guards Tyreke Evans and Brandon Jennings – and we’ve got the scoop on what’s happening with all four.

Not sure how credible the source is or what in the world Dallas could offer...

that's the key question, what the heck could Dallas offer that's worth trading Rondo for?

Not surprising at all. In the thread talking about potential Rondo destinations, Dallas was the first thing that came to my mind.

They're in the market to make big splashes, and with CP3 a lock with the Clippers already, who else do they go? Jennings, Tyreke, Teague, Vasquez, and Harris are all available among others, but Rondo is head and shoulders above all of them.

They have Marion's expiring, they can offer future firsts, they drafted a young PG in Larkin a few nights ago, and they have plenty of cap space to offer a trade exception.

I don't know if Ainge wants to deal Rondo with his trade value depressed due to his injury (or if ever), but Dallas would be one of the more sensible trade partners.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
2014 unprotected, 2016 unprotected, 2018 unprotected, sign and traded OJ Mayo, who knows?

Jae Crowder is also a useful player.

As Dallas is a rumored Dwight preference, would they have money to sign Josh Smith and Dwight Howard?  That's the NBA champion if they can do it.....   Josh Smith at SF.  I'd predict a Nets Mavs finals with the Mavs taking it....but a good series...

That's the thing. Would Danny use Rondo to dump a bunch of contracts while collecting 1st round picks?

I'd want OJ Mayo and a few 1strounders. Along with them taking Wallace's contract if we could.

Also, Danny was rumored to be a big fan of Shane Larkin, who the Mavs suprisingly drafted after people saying for weeks they wanted out of this draft...

Maybe I'm speculating, but this may have legs.

Yeah great!  They need players so it makes sense.  Maybe by the end of the day we'll know the Mavs starters and bench too!

I thought Mark Cuban said that Dallas would not pursue any restricted free agents this summer. Only unrestricted ones.

It seems odd that the article says they will be pursuing Brandon Jennings (restricted free agent, Bucks just said they'll match almost anything) and Tyreke Evans (probable restricted agent).
