Rumor: Dallas Mavericks engaging in trade talks for Rajon Rondo

Sifting through all this, the gist I'm getting is that Dallas called us about Rondo (who most teams believe is available), and Boston basically smacked it down because Dallas doesn't have any realistic package that would work.

Teams are smelling blood after the KG/Pierce deal, and are going to lowball us for Rondo.  Makes sense for Danny to be willing to talk, but demand a high price, and be willing to keep Rondo if that high price doesn't emerge.  Hopefully that's what's happening.

Absolutely this. Ainge has absolutely no incentive to trade Rondo right now, but there's absolutely no hurt in feeling out his trade value right now. Ainge is a smart GM and I think you're spot on with your comments.

Danny didn't draft a point guard so I don't think he gets rid of Rondo. D-Town did draft Larkin though and was Boston's trading partner on draft night so maybe there's something there but if Dirk is tha only cat Danny would want then I don't see any more trading between Boston and Dallas. I don't see Mavs giving up Dirk and I don't think Dallas has anything attractive outside of Dirk.

This is my favorite point guard in tha game. Too talented and arguably tha smartest point guard in tha game. Rondo is too much talent to give away and he's really tha last of tha mohicans. This is tha chance for him to be tha face of this franchise and man tha ship. Danny can build around Rondo. And plus, I would hate to see Rondo be anything other than a Celtic.

I understabd we are looking at the future but [dang] can we atleast slow down??? Rondo is a building block, not the main piece but a big piece and Danny is shopping him like he's easily replaceable. Good Lord...

Additionally, rather than draft a guy with a high ceiling who we could develop during our rebuilding years, we instead go for one of the most NBA-ready prospects to be had in Olynyk?

I definitely don't think Ainge is going to be banking on the next the next five years's drafts at all. He's looking to compete soon.

If they trade rondo..you can trade ME as a fan.....this is totally stupid......trading KG was dumb enough...we could have rebuilt around KG,m Rondo and Green.....with kg coming off the bench.....teaching younger guys to be a KG..! Really? With what extra money? Who were you going to trade with and for that would give you the ability to rebuild around a 37 year old. You do know that rebuild would have to happen this summer for it to work. THAT wasn't going to happen.

To keep KG here on a mediocre team just to teach is a bad move. Mostly because you now have no assets in the next three years other than just your mid teens pics. More options to land a talent in the rough.

Heres what you do. You do what DA did. Move KG and PP (who's shot had been flat all season barley getting over the rim). Let then Run with Brooklyn who is closer to a title, for a couple years. Maybe get them a ring.

Then when he's done playing bring him back over to be a big man/assistant coach with the youngs that they bring in with pics/trades.

If KG didn't want to go, he wouldn't have. He would have stayed or retired. I think DA put PP and Kg in one of the best situations to get one more.

Rondo will be 28 next season.  I love the guy,  but this looks to be at least a 3 year process.  Maybe he'd be better served to play in his prime elsewhere.  It's a terrible idea, but it could be true.

Rondo also is a seasoned player who does not go all out during the season so he still has a lot of gas in the tank. Age is not a factor on Rondo, not yet. If he bounces back from the injury and with the advances of medical science Rondo will play another 12 years at a high level.

I would not trade this guy -- we should lock him up to a long contract

man, you just love dumping on anything the organization since they didn't keep PP and KG around.

The truth is Danny is a great GM who does what is best for the franchise to win another championship, not keep trying to be a pretender contender .

No one is untouchable if we are getting a good return . At this point we are rebuilding .

I agree Rondo is a building block, but if we get offered a high lottery pick or star in his prime in return, I am listening .

Other than that , I agree, keep Rondo.

How many times has CP3 cried and wanted to QUIT..be traded....then look at deron Williams....same thing.....Rondo never creid or to be traded..he has shown he will take on anyone to defend his teammates.....drive to the hole no matter how many times he is thrown to the ground = NO CALL....set up anyone who works.....unselfish...team oriented guy....who played thru even though they TRADED or dumped TA..the only guy at the time that would/ could actually run with Rondo.....you dump Rondo...you got NOTHING.....you think the lakers or the bulls would do this...look at the bulls...their guy rose is another baby....they keep him no matter what....he doesn't pass much...and won't play...rondo would have played hurt if they let him THIS GUY is a TRUE CELTIC...heck,,,,he qualifies in MY BOOK as a TRUE BRUIN too.....

He's got some good years yet, but c'mon now - START to call a point guard's age a negative at 35?

Yeah, that's a little extreme. Most people peak physically around 27 or 28, and start to show stages of decline on the other side of 30.

However, Jason Kidd played until he was 40, and he's probably the most similar player we've seen to Rondo. I don't see much of a reason why #9 won't play for at least another ten years at a high level.

Guessing Dallas is giving up on CP3, but still want Howard and a top PG to entice Howard here or at least improve the team if Dwight goes elsewhere.

Would do it for me.  Could add some filler like our China guys for people like Crowder, James or Morrow to give them even more salary room.  Dallas adds Rondo, maintains cap flexibility, and we get another expiring in Marion - he could backup Green or be a trade piece later.  And we know Danny has had some interest in Larkin and Mayo.

So a guy we passed on at #13 in a weak draft.  A free agent we were going to get (plus a pick) for old  Ray. Veteran guys we'd cut or dump.  And a single first round pick (likely to be very late if we're giving Dallas Rondo and helping them clear space to sign Howard).

And this would do it for you?!?
