EDIT: Also, taking back Courtney Lee and Brandon Bass? What?

Loves it.

That's the thing. Would Danny use Rondo to dump a bunch of contracts while collecting 1st round picks?

I'd want OJ Mayo and a few 1strounders. Along with them taking Wallace's contract if we could.

Also, Danny was rumored to be a big fan of Shane Larkin, who the Mavs suprisingly drafted after people saying for weeks they wanted out of this draft...

Maybe I'm speculating, but this may have legs.

They're not taking back Wallace.  It's more likely they want to dump Marion and/or Vince Carter as part of the deal.  They'd be looking for cap space to go after Howard or Smith and just might be able to squeeze out enough cap space to do so.

Marion doesn't want to go to a rebuilding team so negotiations may involve seeing if a third team wants him.  Maybe a deal can be worked out so Terry goes back to Dallas and Marion goes to the Nets.

Maybe Ainge is just kicking the tires on what he would have to give up to do a S&T for Mayo (Celtics are still over the cap.

Rondo's different than KG and Pierce. Still a multi-year All Star in his prime. I don't care if he just came back from an injury...you can't sell him for .20 on the dollar. I'd require a [dang] good haul for him. Something along the lines of what Philly got for Jrue.

Dallas makes no sense from our end.

Guessing Dallas is giving up on CP3, but still want Howard and a top PG to entice Howard here or at least improve the team if Dwight goes elsewhere.

Hard to figure out contracts right now but something like

Rondo
Brooks
BKN Trade Exception (do we actually have this? I've heard mixed reports)

for

Larkin
Marion
Carter
Mayo S+T
2014 or 2015 1st

Would do it for me.  Could add some filler like our China guys for people like Crowder, James or Morrow to give them even more salary room.  Dallas adds Rondo, maintains cap flexibility, and we get another expiring in Marion - he could backup Green or be a trade piece later.  And we know Danny has had some interest in Larkin and Mayo.

Actually, the Mavs aren't able to trade us any first round draft pick until OKC takes the 1st rd pick owed to them.

The pick is top 20 protected until 2017 and completely unprotected in 2018.

That's awesome. So they'll have to sort it out with OKC first with some kind of compensation.

Could a multiple S&T happen? Darren Collison with OJ Mayo would be two more trade chips for DA. I also really like Crowder, Larkin & Ledo.

Oh gross.  Not sure they could give us enough without getting a 3rd team involved, then.  Especially since they aren't going to want to take salary off our hands.

I don't see a worthwhile deal to be made with the mavericks unless you are committed to dumping Rondo.

The Brooklyn trade should generate a trade exception.  The Celtics are taking in less salary than they are sending out, so there will be something.  It's just a matter of how the deal is structured, which could generate one big exception or two smaller exception, or an exception for Boston and an exception for Brooklyn.

The problem is, the Celtics were likely to be over or near the apron before the trade.  Using up the trade exception to do a sign-and-trade might not be allowed, since it could bring the team over the apron.  So, using up all or most of the trade exception might not be allowed for a sign-and-trade.

yeah no picks means no thanks entirely.

They'd have to be convinced to take back one of BKN's picks or Shane Larkin, which means Dallas pays further through the nose.

Downgraded from 'possible, but probably not' to 'extremely unlikely'.

Also please everyone notice that the website this all stems from is kind of a money-grab.

that's the key question, what the heck could Dallas offer that's worth trading Rondo for?

Larkin and another 1st

If Rondo goes then we must get something for the club

He has:

- high end point guard talent
- a great contract (10m)

We need:

- Cap space (they must take Wallace or Bass or Lee) our three worst contracts
- or cap space in the form of expiring contracts: Marion
- And return usable assets (Collison..a starting PG, Larkin, Ledo, Crowder, etc.)
- assets in the form of draft picks (one 2014 is fine with me)

I wonder if Dallas could remove the protection on the OKC pick. Assuming they go after Rondo and Howard, they are clearly expecting to be a playoff team and have a pick in the 20s, can they send OKC cash or a bag of potatoes to agree that they're taking the pick in 2014 no matter what?

If they could do that, they could put a 2015 and/or 2016 pick in the mix and things get more interesting.

My flavor of this:

Larkin
1st rounder (if possible)
Marion
Carter

FOR

Rondo
Lee

At this point, Green and Bass would be the only non-rookie deals on the entire team.

Larkin
Bradley / Crawford
Green / Joseph
Sullinger / Bass / Olynyk
Melo

That team is surely going to top-3 pick land. Our core becomes:

Wiggins/Parker/Randle, Bradley, Green, Sullinger + 8 1st rounders & cap space for 2 max-level free agents (or trades).

Yeah unless they eat our bad contracts and clear the books for us (which they won't), there is nothing interesting there.

From just a pure basketball fan, I'd love to see a Rondo/Dirk pairing.
