Andrew Bynum at 10 million a year for 3-4 years...As part of a rebuild strategy. Yes or no?

Yes, he's only 25 years old and when healthy he's dominant. Worth the risk for a top 3 big at his age.

No, Never. Too much risk and we've already got Wallace's contract to burn for 3 years while we tank
25 (56.8%)
Would rather keep the money for multiple free agents like Durant, Marc Gasol, Kevin Love in 2015-16
4 (9.1%)
I'd do it but only guarantee 2 seasons on slightly more money.

I think Bynum will sign for a lot more than, say, 3 years, $30 million.

I'd absolutely give him that deal if Philly would do a S&T, though.  I hate the guy, but that's just a smart gamble.
You say you hate him, but being willing to give him $13 MM a year, would indicate otherwise.

$10 million for the Celtics.  3 years, $30 million.

And, hating a guy and appreciating his talent are not mutually exclusive.

Knees don't get better...especially in big men.  They can clean things up and try to stabelize them threw surgery and rehab, but there is no way to fix Bynums knees.  Teams just passed on Deng because their worries about his knees and he hasn't had surgery.

I don't want anything to do with Andrew Bynum and his degenerative knees.

I would stay away from Bynum. The things being said about his knees are very worrying.

Especially so given the current state of the Celtics. They need to keep as much flexibility as possible. Not get bogged down on a multi-year contract on an oft-injured player. Wrong time to take that type of risk.

I would be in favor of signing Bynum as I do think it's worth the gamble.

However, to me, it would make no sense to sign and Bynum and use him as part of a rebuild.

If you sign arguably the 2nd or 3rd best center in the league, you should be competing, not signing him and then telling him to take his sweet time coming back.

It's like me buying a nice, shiny new car but having to wait 9 months to drive it.

I ain't waiting, I am driving that [dang] car now (lol)
This car isn't new, it has just been in an accident. You would wait for it to get repaired before driving it right?

If they could sign him and spend the entire year just building up strength in his knee, and take a slow rehab approach on Rondo, then the team would still effectively be tanking. They would just be doing it with good players injured.

But Bynum has been out the last year. How much more time does he need?

Same thing with Rondo. He's been out since January. How much more time does he need?

I guess I am just not a fan of signing a big name player and just telling him to warm the bench just so we can be bad.

I don't see how that benefits you in any way.

I'd give him max money for 3yrs if the Sixers would S&T. I wouldn't want him playing this year though. I'd want him doing strength training (maybe with Rondo!).

  • It's all about the TEAM!
He just punked the 76ers taking millions and returning nothing and instead of feeling like he owes Philly anything hes up for grabs on the market to the highest bidder. Yeah lets get some of that. A year ago the 76ers was one game away from the ECF and now they suck. I want no part of that guy. Hate to see him mentioned as a "should we try and get him" guy.

I've had two minor meniscus surgeries...the first didn't go very well.  Before the surgery at 6'4 I could hit my head on the rim..i'm 10 years post surgery now and have never been able to play competitive basketball since.  I know these guys have world class surgeons but Bynums knees are done...he blew one of them bowling.

I would pass.

Absolutely not. His knees are shot. Plus, he's got a bad attitude.

Bynum would be O'Neal 2.0.  A huge risk and not worth it because we are tanking.  We want to get big money off the books so that IF we land Wiggins or Parker we have money to get some good free agents in 2015 to build around him.
