Kelly Olynyk to me is Zydrunas Ilgauskas with shorter arms.

While Kelly moves very well, he's not as quick as Dirk. For a PF Dirk has very quick first step. But Olynyk is as crafty in the post as Big Z, great footwork, can create space for his own and hit the mid range.

In a weak draft, getting a Zydrunas Ilgauskas level talent at 13 is alright to me.

??

Thanks for the laugh.

I can't remember who, but someone made a comparison with Luis Scola, and I think that's most accurate, right down to the hair style.
This is the right answer.  Lock the thread.

His highlights remind me of birdman.  He is a better shooter than birdman and not a high flyer, but similar looking player.

They're both white guys who hustle and play with energy.  Olynyk's reported strengths (non-garbage offense, both inside and out) are Andersen's weaknesses.  Olynyk's reported weaknesses (rebounding, defense) are Andersen's strengths.

He's a combination of Ty Hansbrough and Spencer Hawes, to me.  Imagine somebody like that, only hitting like 35-38% of his threes, mostly from the corner and just above the break.

I'm just fine with getting a guy like that at #13.

He doesn't have Dirk's athleticism or range.

Dirk is athletic??

Dirk has one main adv as a sf/pf and that is his height. He moves pretty well for his height and is smart for the reason that he hasn't gotten killed by the likes of Lebron or Pierce.

Olynyk still has "pudgy" body. Not out of shape but needs to get refined. His trunk area is also thick. Prob needs to change his workout to get lean without losing strength. HE won't be a sf though in the nba. But a stretch pf. Danny doesn't mind small ball, so it can workout. We got Sully to do the dirty work down low

You say he isn't athletic, but then talk about how he moves well for his height.  Aren't agility, quickness, and body control all part of being a good athlete?

Being "athletic" doesn't just mean you jump high or run fast.

From what I've seen of his offensive game he's nba ready.  Put him on the post and let bosh try to guard him.  His defense is supposed to be weak.  The rest of starters right now:
rondo & bradley backcourt, both named to all nba defensive teams
sully very good defensive numbers
jeff green good defender

and that is a good running team

need a good distance shooter to spread the floor from sg position, can't guess at roster as danny isn't anywhere near done, bass? humphries? log jam at pf position
was someone being moved for ben gordon or was that a rumor
jj redick would be a nice pick up
WANT NEED a vet backup pg

I think Olynyk sounds very interesting. He needs to work on his physical strength and stamina but his balance, mobility and co-ordination are all very good. Solid quickness. Not explosive but he has some good physical markers.

Skilled size. Strong high post game with the jump-shot and passing ability. Ball-handling and driving capability. Some low post stuff.

Not a finished article. Will struggle initially. Probably needs about two years to improve his body (strength, stamina) but if he puts in that work, Olynyk could be a really good player for the Celtics down the road.
